Trail reviews for Aguja Bustamente
Amazing views, turned back because of time. The last bit of trail seems a little precarious. Bring lots of water and snacks, it’s very exposed.
Beautiful and easy track for the most part. Although it can be done within a day we decided to break it in two to not be too rush on tiem. We left our car in Fuente De and took the cable car to the plateau. The area by La Vueltona and further up is full of rock bivouacs, so it is easy to set up camp, Cabaña Veronica also has some flat camping spot . Just be aware this is a very rocky area with no potable water around. The grassy area around the cable car is also a good spot to set up camp. The track up to Cabañana Veronica is well defined and marked. Going along a karst track. We didn't face any issues on the way up, but can be a bit taxing on the way down. Once at Cabaña Veronica follow the marked path to Horcados Rojos, eventually there will be an unmarked off track towards Tesorero. Although unmarked the track is easy to follow and counts with multiple rock markings from fellow hikers. Note that c. 100-200m below the summit the track requires significant scrambling. Drops are not significant but be aware of your skill level.
The ascent is long, steep and a bit technical. The descent was fairly simple with good paths most of the way down. Hiked mid-may, so would love to go again when the snow is cleared, but that was also part of the fun.
Leave early, it gets very hot, took the cable car up and from there walked an extra bit up for a rougher landscape on a narrower path/less people for the popular route down, very doable in terms of paths.
