It is hard to think of the perfect meal to celebrate winning a gold medal at the Olympics. Nothing seems quite special enough to capture the excitement of being one of the best athletes in the world. But for gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee, the answer is simple. Her love for one particular food means her post-meet meal is a no-brainer, and I can absolutely see why. It’s a classic.

Suni Lee’s Go-To Meal After Winning Gold at the Olympics

In a 2022 interview, Lee revealed that she eats pizza after every meet. While I am not an Olympiad, I am, like Lee, a college student. It might be our closeness in age, but I honestly can’t think of a better post-meet bite. After all of the stress and excitement, a simple and comforting meal with teammates sounds like the perfect way to wind down.

An excitement for pizza is not new for Lee. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Lee celebrated her first gold medal with some pizza. “That’s all I’ve been craving this whole time,” she said in an interview with NBC. Now we know finally what Olympic gymnasts are thinking about while they are mid-flip in the air: their post-meet pizza pie.

Lee's pizza order after taking gold in Tokyo was a large pepperoni pizza. This simple, classic meal sounds like the perfect accompaniment to a chill night after a big day—or like the perfect food to fuel some post-Olympics celebrations.

Luckily for Lee, this love for pizza earned her free Domino’s for three years back in 2021. As a college student at the time, I am sure this was helpful to power through late study nights or to munch on while hanging out with friends.

While Suni's free pizza sponsorship is now up, hopefully another pizza chain will pull through and help her out. While you would think she would grow tired of the food by now, it seems like she has unlimited love for it. “I love pizza. I can eat that literally every single day of my life,” Lee said in a recent interview.

Let's hope that this year's Olympic games brings all of the pepperoni pizza Suni Lee could hope for. With stellar performances so far, there is certainly cause to celebrate.

After learning that Simone Biles loves Whataburger and Jordan Chiles loves Lucky Charms, I honestly think I would fit right in with the members of the Olympics gymnastics team. I might not be able to do a cartwheel, nevertheless a full gymnastics routine, but I think we would still have a lot of fun at our post-meet pizza party.

Maybe this is my sign to take a trip to Los Angeles for the 2028 Summer Olympics. If there is pizza involved, then I can confidently say I’d be willing to overcome my lack of a gymnastics career to be in attendance. Put me in, coach!
