Bacon-mushroom turkey burgers are moist and flavorful and are a lighter alternative to ground beef; my kids love these. Enjoy! Serve on your favorite type of bun with your choice of condiments.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices multigrain bread

  • 1 pound ground turkey

  • 6 white mushrooms, finely chopped

  • 1 egg

  • 2 green onions, finely chopped

  • 3 slices cooked bacon, finely chopped, or more to taste

  • 5 dashes hot sauce, or more to taste

  • ½ teaspoon pureed garlic

  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Mince bread in a food processor and transfer crumbs to a bowl. Add turkey, mushrooms, egg, green onions, bacon, hot sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well and divide into 4 portions. Form each portion into a patty.

  2. Preheat a grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate. Cook patties until no longer pink in the center, 12 to 14 minutes.

Cook's Notes:

You can substitute panko bread crumbs for the crumbled bread, or use sprouted grain bread. End pieces are preferable.

You can mince the mushrooms in the food processor.

Use turkey bacon, if you prefer.

You can replace the chopped bacon with 1/3 cup bacon bits.
