Watermelon and Basil Martini

My summer garden inspired me to venture into my cocktail laboratory to concoct this chic, fashionable summer martini. Best enjoyed wearing flip-flops. (Warning: More than one may cause misplaced flip-flops.)

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 2 servings

  • 2 slices peeled and thinly-sliced cucumber

  • 2 leaves fresh basil

  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

  • 4 fluid ounces watermelon vodka

  • 1 cup crushed ice

  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice

  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar)

  • 2 slices peeled and thinly-sliced cucumber

Directions

  1. Place 2 thin slices of cucumber in a bowl with basil leaves and sugar and smash with a fork until softened; pour in a teaspoon of watermelon vodka to loosen the mixture. Place crushed ice into a cocktail shaker and transfer cucumber-basil mixture into shaker; top with remaining watermelon vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake and strain into 2 chilled martini glasses; garnish each cocktail with 1 slice of peeled cucumber. Best enjoyed wearing flip-flops.
