Whether you’re speeding down the highway or exploring another country, that big yellow “M” signifies a McDonald’s isn’t far off. Mickey D’s branding is so beloved and recognizable that it is a pop culture staple in and of itself—great food aside. From the McDonald’s restaurant inside Richie Rich’s mansion to Inspector Jacques Clouseau's love for its burger in “Pink Panther,” McDonald’s and its menu have had some pretty serious cameos over the years. And, let's be honest, there are very few brands that could change some letters in their name and still be just as distinguishable. Think “McDowell’s” in “Coming to America, “RocDonald’s” in “The Flinstones,” and “WcDonald’s” in countless anime movies and shows—of course, they’re all just Ronald McDonald’s restaurant in disguise. Now, the brand has a limited time promotion that honors one of those cameos. McDonald's Introduces WcDonald's Restaurant The brand is honoring the world of anime and WcDonald’s by bringing the McDonald’s-inspired restaurant to life. Starting Feb. 26, in 30 different international markets, McDonald’s is flipping the “m” and officially becoming WcDonald’s for a limited time. To celebrate, McDonald’s is releasing new WcDonald’s packaging for every meal. The packaging was designed by Acky Bright, a Japanese manga artist/illustrator, and will feature members of the WcDonald’s crew, plus, a QR code to watch an exclusive WcDonald’s anime series. Every week through March 18, McDonald’s and the animation house studio pierrot will release an episode of WcDonald’s anime in a different subgenre—including Action, Romance, Mecha, and Fantasy. McDonald's And, because you can’t check out the packaging without ordering your fave Mickey D’s meal, WcDonald’s is even getting its own sauce. Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce will join the menu for a limited time as the perfect side for WcNuggets (a.k.a. the classic McNuggets). The sauce is a mix of ginger, garlic, soy, and chili flakes that creates a bold, slightly spicy combo, unlike anything you can find on the current McDonald’s menu. While Mickey D’s says the sauce pairs well with its chicken nuggets, you can order it as a side to any of your favorite menu items. However, the sauce will only be available for a limited time, so if you want to try the magic of WcDonald’s, you’ll have to head there soon. Because anime is such a global phenomenon, it means this campaign reaches more than just the U.S.—which also gives us hope that more international McDonald’s items will make their way stateside soon. Yes, we are, of course, talking about the mozzarella sticks and BLTs we’ve been missing out on. Hey, a Mickey D’s fan can dream—but, for now, we'll just enjoy our trip to WcDonald’s.
