Allrecipes' editorial guidelines Published on May 23, 2024 Photo: Material / AllRecipes As someone who tries to limit plastic as much as possible in the kitchen, cutting boards can be a challenge. I’m a big fan of wooden cutting boards, but there are also times when a plastic cutting board comes in handy. If you’re working with raw proteins, need a lightweight tool to take on the go, or simply want an option that’s safe to put in the dishwasher, plastic cutting boards offer convenience and affordability that many wooden boards do not. The good news is that I’ve finally found a plastic cutting board with sustainable features—made using recycled, renewable materials and durable enough to last for years. It’s perfectly dishwasher-safe and an ideal size for any kitchen task without being too bulky. The even better news? It’s currently 20 percent off for Memorial Day. Material Kitchen The (grippy) reBoard Material $40 $32 at Materialkitchen.com Material Kitchen incorporates layers of sustainability into its plastic reBoard, which has already sold out 10 times. It’s made using a combination of recycled plastic kitchen scraps and renewable sugarcane, resulting in an exceptionally durable product that’s available in several stunning colors. This newer “grippy” reBoard features the same size and design but adds four silicone corners to keep the board from slipping on the countertop. This non-slip feature is a game changer, especially when it comes to smooth marble countertops—or in my case, very old kitchen countertop tiles that have created an uneven prep surface. It will also help keep vigorous chopping under control. I especially love the reBoard’s textured surface, which keeps food like carrots and cherry tomatoes from rolling off during prep. The recycled plastic and sugarcane composite is much easier on my knives than other plastic cutting boards I’ve tried in the past, which is always a plus since I am particularly attached to my favorite chef’s knife. It’s incredibly lightweight, and the strong material has endured almost daily use and cycles through the dishwasher for well over a year. There’s also no need to pop the grippy board’s silicone corners off before washing. The board measures 14.75 by 10.75 by 0.37 inches, which I’ve found to be just large enough to slice up a roasted chicken without taking up too much counter space. For drying and storage, there’s a loop on the corner that makes it easy to hang pretty much anywhere. Material really went above and beyond on the color options, as well—the grippy version is available in pale pink Dahlia, light purple Taffy, navy blue Lapiz, and bright reddish-orange Pimentón. Bottom line: If you’re looking for a great cutting board, look no further. And now that it’s 20 percent off, it’s a must. Grab one now while it’s still on sale.
