My mom made these, but with bourbon, in the 1950s to send to my Naval Officer dad when he had to be away on a ship at Christmas. I’ve been making them all my adult life and they are still a hit.

Delicious and so easy! This is quite similar to what I used to make in the 70s, and it’s as wonderful as ever, plus no chemicals like you get in a mix. I added pinches of cinnamon and ground chile to go with our Mexican dinner tonight. Makes 6.

This was the absolute best casserole I’ve ever made with leftover ham. It tastes completely different, and the peas and cheese make it just wonderful. I was out of macaroni, so used regular egg noodles-a fine substitute. And those onions on top-so tasty!

This is an absolutely terrific soup! I used a shallot, just because I had one, and we prefer sharp cheese. Will DOUBLE it next time for sure. Served just two with a smidge left over.

As another reviewer noted, the steak needs to be cooked separately, and you can easily do it in the veggie pan, remove, and then warm everything together in the sauce. That would make this a 5 star for me. It is delicious, easy, and if you have leftovers, even better the second day.

I bought a 25# box of apples from our local cidery-that’s a lot for two people if only one is a huge appalled fan! This recipe had the look of something great to have with morning coffee, and it sure delivers. I made 1.5 x the recipe for all ingredients except sugar due to other reviews of it being very sweet. That perfectly filled two of the slightly smaller foil loaf pans, so I had another loaf to give or freeze. I diced the apples small for better distribution, and subbed Penzey’s Pie spice for the seasonings. Delicious.
