TikTok's Twisted Bacon Makes for a Crispy AND Chewy Treat

This could settle the crispy-versus-chewy fight.

You may have heard that there's something of a potential bacon shortage looming. So with that in mind, it's imperative you make the most of every strip you have.

Luckily, TikTok's take on bacon is here to twist up your usual approach to the breakfast staple— quite literally in this case. The biggest thing in bacon on the booming social network is to twist up your bacon, which somehow manages to make your bacon both chewy and crispy and seems like it defies all logic.

Though tried and tested by many TikTokers, this video from @RichardEats offers a useful survey of how you can try this twist on your usual breakfast pork routine in just a few simple steps.

Try the Recipe: Spiced Bacon Twists

All it takes is a cooling rack placed above a (tin foil-lined baking sheet). Then, you, well, twist the bacon and lay it out. The bacon then finds its way into your oven at 375 degrees F (191 degrees C) for about 30 to 35 minutes. Once you take it out, @RichardEats attests that the end result is "the crispiest AND chewiest bacon I've ever had," which says pretty much all you need to know.

Now that the weather's warming up, you can also twist up some bacon outside. As @TheMeatTeacher shows, putting some twisted bacon on the grill and hickory smoking it for half an hour at 275 degrees F is an awesome way to put a BBQ-style spin on the viral trend for grilling season.

It's easy to see why the concept has taken off, as twisted bacon checks all the boxes for a viral food hack: novel, easy, and tasty. In fact, the hardest part might just be tracking down the bacon itself given the pork supply chain issues that could be in store for us this summer.

Given that the chewy-versus- rispy debate has divided bacon lovers since the dawn of time, it sure sounds like twisting things up just to see if it's possible to transcend this fierce divide. Could twisted bacon usher in a new era of world peace? It's hard to say, but certainly worth a shot.
