This 2-Ingredient "Dirty Dessert" Left Us Speechless

It even inspired a new, limited-edition cake coming to stores.

At Allrecipes, our ears perk up when we hear of a celebrity, famous chef, or really anyone sharing their go-to simple snack. We're always on the hunt for new ways to level up the snack foods we already have on hand, whether that be by microwaving them, melting them, or combining them in unexpected ways. But every once in a while, we stumble upon a snack that leaves even us at a loss for words. This is one of those.

It all started with Christina Tosi, chef, TV host, and owner of the wildly successful bakery chain, Milk Bar. Tosi is known for finding new, brilliant, and creative uses for nostalgic childhood snacks (she's credited with popularizing cereal milk as a flavor). Her love of snacks is well-documented and knows no bounds, and the one she has coined her "Dirty Dessert Secret" is certainly boundary-pushing. Here's why she loves Flamin' Hot Cheetos dipped in vanilla frosting, and why you will, too.

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos & Vanilla Frosting Are a Match Made in Junk Food Heaven

French fries dipped in milkshakes, pretzels dipped in chocolate, sure—but Hot Cheetos dipped in frosting? That was a new one for me. I'm a firm believer in "Don't knock it 'til you try it," so it was time to give it a try. And you know what—it's delicious.

This combination is like rainbows and shooting stars—one of life's beautiful mysteries that's best left unexplained. Mostly because I can't explain it. What I will say is the sweet frosting and the spicy, salty Cheetos balance each other out, while bringing out each other's best qualities. Inexplicably, Cheetos taste cheesier—better—when dunked in a can of frosting.

As Christina Tosi says, "There's something about the creamy, dreamy vanilla with the punch and the sharpness and the edge of Cheddar cheese of that Cheetle (the technical term for Cheeto dust) and then you get this like smooth, cool, creamy vanilla."

When Tosi was a guest on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" last year, she had Fallon and the show's musical director, Questlove, blind taste test the snack pairing. Upon tasting the snack, Fallon responds by simply telling Tosi "You're a genius."

It really is one of those things you have to taste to believe. Of course, you can go out and buy a bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos and a can of vanilla icing. Or you could get a limited edition cake inspired by Tosi's "Dirty Dessert Secret" from her hugely successful bakery, Milk Bar. Here's what you need to know.
