Głównym celem opracowania jest analiza najważniejszych problemów społecznych i światopoglądowych we współczesnej Polsce. Tekst zawiera również omówienie artykułu pt. „Boże Narodzenie jest w tym roku inne” („Christmas is different this year”), który został opublikowany 23 grudnia 2024 r. na łamach gazety „The New York Times” (International Edition). Jego autor, Ross Douthat, jest znanym także w Polsce amerykańskim analitykiem politycznym, blogerem, dziennikarzem i felietonistą. Jego zdaniem istnieją dowody statystyczne, że ostatnia fala sekularyzacji osiągnęła pewien rodzaj granicy. Istnieją przekonujące dowody kulturowe, że świecki liberalizm stracił wiarę w siebie, że wielu ludzi tęskni nie tylko za moralną wizją religii, ale także za jej metafizycznymi horyzontami, że argumenty za wiarą religijną mogą być na nowo słyszane.

Galicia ha sido hasta mediados del siglo veinte una de las regiones con mayor peso poblacional de España, con un porcentaje superior al 10% en las primeras décadas de dicho siglo. Los fuertes movimientos migratorios de la primera mitad del siglo, primero hacia Latinoamérica y después hacia los países más desarrollados de Europa, la industrialización tardía, el descenso de los precios relativos de la agricultura, y la baja participación de Galicia en muchos capítulos importantes del gasto público español han sido algunos de los principales factores que explican su pérdida de peso relativo en la población nacional, hasta situarse en el 6.6% en el año 2001. A pesar de ello Galicia ha tenido una evolución muy positiva en las últimas década del siglo veinte en industrialización, turismo y educación, y es deseable que se superen también otros obstáculos para conseguir una recuperación del peso poblacional de Galicia, en torno al 7%, o al menos para evitar que descienda por debajo del 6%. En este trabajo se analizan algunos modelos econométricos que explican esta evolución y se presentan tres escenarios alternativos respecto a la evolución de la población de Galicia en el período 2001-2011.

Правда, если в РФ сверхсмертность бьёт по всем слоям общества, включая богатых и знаменитостей, в США гибнут в первую очередь люди без высшего образования (особенно белые, прежде имевшие преимущество относительно прочих рас).

This article begins by outlining a three-pronged critical theory of the state of Israel as, following Giorgio Agamben, a state of exception, following David Theo Goldberg, a racial state, and, following Patrick Wolfe, a settler colony. Elia Zureik’s work on the role of surveillance used by the state of Israel in controlling the Palestinians both in Israel proper and in the territory occupied by Israel in 1967 is then outlined. Since theories of exception and settler colonialism often fail to specifically foreground race, the paper continues by following African American theorist Alexander Weheliye who critiques westocentric work on exception and biopolitics as not foregrounding race, placing race front and centre in this analysis of Israel’s war against the Palestinians. This study evaluates the effectiveness of policing strategies-specifically community policing and hot spot policing-in reducing crime in densely populated, multiethnic urban neighbourhoods. Employing a quantitative research design, the study analyzes crime data, demographic trends, and public perceptions of law enforcement through correlation and regression analyses. Findings indicate that community policing is significantly associated with increased public trust and lower crime rates, particularly when supported by youth engagement initiatives and institutional collaboration. While hot spot policing results in short-term reductions in violent crime at targeted locations, it often contributes to spatial crime displacement in adjacent areas. Additionally, socioeconomic factors-such as youth population density and income inequality-emerge as strong predictors of crime patterns, underscoring the importance of structural conditions in shaping public safety. The study concludes that sustainable crime prevention requires an integrated approach that combines traditional law enforcement with community empowerment, youth development, and inter-agency cooperation. These findings offer critical insights for policymakers and law enforcement agencies in urban environments seeking to enhance both safety and social equity.

According to the 2011 Census of India, Bihar is the most densely populated state and has a higher fertility rate than the national average. Recent findings from the NFHS-5 indicate a gradual decline in fertility rates. However, the state’s fertility level remains at three, exceeding the government’s target of two. This study examines the impact of women’s education, employment status, social status and other demographic factors on fertility behavior using NFHS-5 data from a specific district in Bihar. The district was selected based on demographic density and literacy statistics. The multinomial logistic regression method was employed to analyze the association between the total number of children ever born and various demographic characteristics. The analysis categorizes fertility behavior into three parameters: one child, two children and three children. The findings reveal a significant impact of female education and working status on fertility outcomes, validating the research hypotheses. This study underscores the critical role of socioeconomic and demographic factors in shaping fertility patterns in Bihar.

The dominant approach to studying historical race-related fertility differences has been to limit samples to first-married and younger women. We argue that studying historical race-related fertility differences in the context of remarriage is also important: remarriage and fertility patterns are both rooted in the biosocial conditions that produce racial disparities in health. We employ a multiple causes framework that attributes variation in fertility patterns to voluntary limitation and involuntary factors (infecundity/subfecundity). We use data from the 1910 Integrated Public Use Microdata Series and estimate zero-inflated negative binomial models that simultaneously distinguish those who are infecund (vs. fecund) and estimate the number of remarital births among the fecund. Our approach allows us to evaluate historical remarital (in)fertility differences, accounting for marital, socioeconomic, and geographic influences on fecundity and fertility, while empirically accounting for the influence of children "missing" from the household due to mortality and fostering/ aging out. Consistent with past studies that emphasized poorer African American health as a major influence on involuntary infertility, we find that African American women were more likely than white women to be in the always-zero (infecund) group and to have fewer remarital births. Supplemental analyses nuance these findings but indicate that these results are robust. Overall, we find support for a multiple-causes perspective: while the findings are consistent with the adoption of deliberate fertility control among urban and higher-status women at higher parities, remarital fertility differences in 1910 also reflected greater infecundity/subfecundity among subgroups of women, especially African American women.

A través de la simulación histórico-geográfica y considerando los diferentes elementos contextuales de la enfermedad tales como, su rápida propagación y medios de transporte, hemos construido dos simulaciones sobre cómo eventualmente se habrían transmitido las epidemias por el espacio Mediterráneo. De este modo, la caracterización de la transmisión de estas enfermedades nos permite señalar el impacto de las redes de conexión y como los movimientos fueron factores que gatillaron cambios estructurales en cada una de estas sociedades. En definitiva, no podemos comprender la historia de nuestra sociedad occidental sin referirnos al impacto de estos procesos desde una mirada holística que combine la historia, la cultura y la infectología.

The concern about aging in Romania is generated by recording its aging trend, reflected by the continuous increase in numbers compared to other segments of the population and the impact this has on their vulnerable category. The last few decades are marked by a continuous and significant population decline due alarming deterioration of population dynamics of three components: births, deaths and migration. The current demographic picture of the country reveals that the number of pensioners tends to exceed half of the population, the number of adults and children decreased statistically and significantly narrows its pyramid base. These are essential elements that require effective social policies including demographic ones.

Автор анализирует исторические, социолингвистические и геополитические аспекты распространения и функционирования русского языка, его роль в формировании единого культурного пространства, а также перспективы развития в глобализирующемся мире. Представлен анализ механизмов языкового взаимодействия и приведены конкретные примеры влияния русского языка на формирование идентичности постсоветских обществ. "Background: Worldwide teenage pregnancy marks a major public health concern that hits hardest in countries with lower and medium incomes. A recent national family health survey study shows adolescent pregnancy rates climbed in three northeastern states while other parts of the country recorded progress. Understanding the factors contributing to marital teenage pregnancy is crucial for improving the health status of both mother and new born.
Materials and Methods: The present study looked at teenage marital pregnancy trends and their risk factors in Northeast India based on NFHS-5 household data. Using Cox proportional hazard regression analysis, risk factors associated with teenage marital pregnancy was identified in the region.
Results: Findings reveal Tripura leads all states in northeast India with maximum teenage pregnancy cases and Assam ranks second. Results show that teenagers in rural areas who follow the Islamic faith and have lower edu-cation levels plus minimal media contact face higher chances of encountering pregnancy during teenage while peers do not.
Conclusions: The study recommends targeted interventions to improve access to educational opportunities along with awareness and family planning measures in rural areas to address cultural and religious factors that may in-fluence attitudes towards child marriage and teenage pregnancy."

The Global Flourishing Study is a longitudinal panel study of over 200,000 participants in 22 geographically and culturally diverse countries, spanning all six populated continents, with nationally representative sampling and intended annual survey data collection for 5 years to assess numerous aspects of flourishing and its possible determinants. The study is intended to expand our knowledge of the distribution and determinants of flourishing around the world. Relations between a composite flourishing index and numerous demographic characteristics are reported. Participants were also surveyed about their childhood experiences, which were analyzed to determine their associations with subsequent adult flourishing. Analyses are presented both across and within countries, and discussion is given as to how the demographic and childhood relationships vary by country and which patterns appear to be universal versus culturally specific. Brief comment is also given on the results of a whole series of papers in the Global Flourishing Study Special Collection, employing similar analyses, but with more-specific aspects of well-being. The Global Flourishing Study expands our knowledge of the distribution and determinants of well-being and provides foundational knowledge for the promotion of societal flourishing.

Since 1895, the Population and Housing Census of Mexico has included the variable ‘religious affiliation’, and this helped to affirm the monopoly of the Catholic religion. In the new millennium, the dynamics of religious diversification of recent decades required a change of design in order to capture the new situation, making religious minorities visible in a way that would propitiate a culture of pluralism. To this end, a team of researchers worked together to capture the diversity of religions in Mexico for the 2010 census. Spisy mieszkaniowe są rzadko wykorzystywanym źródłem w badaniach historycznych. Tymczasem pozwalają one lepiej przybliżyć sytuację materialną mieszkańców oraz dostarczają wymiernych wskaźników, które można porównywać w czasie i przestrzeni. To właśnie leżało u podstaw przygotowania niniejszego artykułu, w którym skupiono uwagę na wizualizacji wyników spisu z 1927 r. Wydaje się, że jego recepcja w polskich badaniach historycznych dotyczących Ziem Zachodnich i Północnych jest znikoma, mimo że dostarczył on szczegółowe dane przygotowane w nowatorski sposób dla miejscowości liczących co najmniej 5 tys. mieszkańców. Aby ukazać podobieństwa i różnice w kształtowaniu się różnych wielkości, porównano miasto Trzciankę (niem. Schönlanke) z największymi miastami Pogranicza (niem. Grenzmark Posen-Westpreußen), tj. Piłą (niem. Schneidemühl) i Wałczem (niem. Deutsch Krone), a także z grupami miast liczących od 5 do 20 tys. mieszkańców oraz od 5 do 50 tys. mieszkańców.

Demographic transition theory assumes that, given similar socio-economic conditions of modernity in "developing" countries, fertility rates will decline to a statistical level of 2.1 births per woman as occurred in European societies. Demographic analyses show fertility rates both decreasing and increasing. This heterogeneity of fertility rates is a "central problematic in the study of population" (ix) that cannot be resolved using quantitative census survey. Ten authors address this contradiction utilizing demographic (quantitative/macro/ statistical) reasoning and ethnographic (qualitative/micro/interpretive) methods and analyses. The editors' introduction presents an informative overview of demography and ethnography to focus on the work of anthropological demographer Jennifer Johnson-Hanks whose theory of "vital conjuncture" informs each contributors' analysis. Vital conjunctures are a "complex intersection" of current sociocultural and personal forces people consider when making reproductive (and other life) decisions for now and for their future. These ethnographically rich studies-six in Africa and one each in Tajikistan, Northern Italy (with Greece and Spain), and Cambodia, discover how pressures of kin, gender roles, family, marriage, employment inform peoples' decision-making processes and agency. These insights make sense of outcomes that run contrary to demographic transition theory. Anthropological demography means "there is simply more to say than there would be if one stuck to a single discipline" (Heady 155) and space constraints mean I can only hint at the vital conjunctions informing fertility decisions in these case studies. Analysing a century of Catholic mission documents in four east African states, show how pressures of colonization redefined local reproductive mores to reflect western mores of sexuality, family form and reproductive behaviour (Walters). Similarly, Namibian women's fertility is impacted by changing moral values embedded in developing class formations (Pauli). Two groups of Tajik women, whose differing perspectives on reproducing group/identity or reproducing the Soviet state, resulted in different patterns of fertility increase (Roche and Hohmann). Status gizi adalah ukuran keberhasilan dalam pemenuhan gizi yang diindikasikan oleh berat badan dan tinggi badan. Didapatkan data balita penderita gizi kurang 16 balita (36,4%) dan gizi normal 28 balita (64%). Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat kecukupan protein, pengetahuan ibu, status imunisasi dan status infeksi dengan status gizi (BB/U) balita usia 12-24 bulan di Pekon Yogyakarta dan Kediri Kacamatan Gading Rejo Kabupaten Pringsewu tahun 2021. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan desain penelitian cross sectional. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 44 balita usia 12-24 bulan di Pekon Yogyakarta dan Kediri Kacamatan Gading Rejo Kabupaten Pringsewu. Analisis statistik penelitian ini menggunakan Uji Chi Square. Pengambilan data pengetahuan ibu menggunakan kuesioner yang terdiri dari 25 soal terkait gizi seimbang pada balita, status infeksi dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Pengambilan data status infeksi dilakukan mengunakan kuesioner terkait riwayat penyakit yang dimiliki balita. Ada hubungan yang antara tingkat kecukupan protein dengan status gizi (BB/U)(p = 0,000), tidak ada hubungan pengetahuan ibu dengan status gizi (BB/U) (p = 1,000), tidak ada hubungan status imunisasi dengan status gizi (BB/U), tidak ada hubungan status infeksi dengan status gizi (BB/U) (p = 0,444).

no presenta en la actualidad un panorama preocupante en cuanto a sus niveles de fecundidad, aún a la fecha no disponemos de explicaciones certeras de la manera en que este proceso se llevó a cabo. Avanzar en esta línea permitiría entender los motivos de la persistencia de grupos que no han iniciado o completado la transición de la fecundidad, contrastando con la evolución de otros que están prácticamente en niveles cercanos al reemplazo. A partir de un trabajo previo en el que caracterizamos a las pioneras del cambio reproductivo en México, en este documento nos proponemos indagar las razones que indujeron a estas mujeres a regular su fecundidad de manera voluntaria y los medios que utilizaron con esta finalidad. Es decir, identificar a través de los relatos de sus experiencias los factores que influyeron en la adopción de nuevas actitudes en relación con la reproducción, así como identificar las formas utilizadas para abandonar el régimen de fecundidad natural al cual estaban sujetas. El marco conceptual utilizado es el de la Racionalidad, Apertura y Disponibilidad de medios para controlar la fecundidad propuesto por Coale (1977) y recuperado por Lesthaeghe y Vanderhoeft (1999). La información utilizada proviene de 25 entrevistas en profundidad hechas a mujeres identificadas como pioneras. Los hallazgos señalan que las generaciones transicionales (nacidas entre 1942 y 1946) cumplieron ya en los años sesenta con las precondiciones establecidas por Coale. En primer lugar el hecho de que la generación de los padres de las pioneras, dispuso de una cierta Racionalidad en torno al cambio que los condujo a invertir en la educación más prolongada de sus hijas. Como consecuencia las pioneras -sus hijas-fueron socializadas en un ambiente en que existía esta racionalidad a lo cual sumaron una apertura al cambio. Esta última se tradujo, entre otras cosas, en una actitud positiva hacia la regulación de la fecundidad y con ello, una rápida adopción de las formas de control disponibles. La adopción de esta actitud se vio reforzada por la flexibilidad que mostró la familia y el entorno así como la Iglesia y el propio cuerpo médico y de salud.

Ivan Bošković ŽIVOT I RAD RUGJERA BOŠKOVIČA Neutvrđenog dana dvadesetih godina XVIII. stoljeća Dubrovnik je uzdrmao jaki potres: dakako, znatno slabiji od onog katastrofalnog iz godine 1667. U tom trenutku pred vratima od Pila zatekao se je jedan dječak. Pred njegove no ge pala je kamena glava s kipa sv. Vlaha, što se nalazio u udubini nad ulaznim vratima. Dječak se tako prestrašio da se tog doživljaja živo sjećao i u svojim zrelim godinama. U netom opisanom događaju ima i stanovite simbolike: sv. Vlaho, biskup i mučenik, zaštitnik je grada i biskupije dubrovačke i Dubrovačke Republike i njihov tisućgodišnji znamen. Ne ocrtava li znakovito pad njegove glave i suton dubrovačke moći i veličine, koji je uslijedio poslije potresa 6. travnja 1667.?! Istina, kamena glava vraćena je na svoje mjesto i danas se tamo nalazi. A veliči na Dubrovnika? Je li nju netko vratio?! Da! -na svojevrstan način -upravo onaj dječak, koji je ime svojega rodnog grada i svoje hrvatske domovine pronio diljem cijeloga svijeta. Naime, taj dječak bijaše Rugjer Josip Bošković. Rugjer Bošković potječe iz obitelji koja je svojevrsni fenomen, ne po broju svojih članova, nego po prinosu što ga je dala hrvatskoj kulturi. Jer, rijetke su i u drugih, daleko većih naroda obitelji, koje su u jednom ili kroz više koljena dale veći broj umjetnika, znanstvenika i uopće zaslužnih i znamenitih ljudi. Mi se Hrvati, naprotiv, možemo pohvaliti, da smo -iako maleni narod -imali ili imamo čitav niz takovih zajednica, među kojima Boškovićima pripada zaista posebno mjesto. Thiw paper aims to examine thw effects of the Orthodox Easter customs on human health in a large part og Greece. Data come from the exhaustive research of newspaper archives covering the Civil War period until today. These data are combined with some from thw Greek police for the last years of the study. These customs include the yse of flares or other improvised devices using explosives. The goal is to produce as much sparkle and pop as possible. However, their use involves risks to human health and a range of injuries, from fatal to minor, have been observed. Their use contradicts the state an ecclesiastical legislation; thus, the present study aims to demonstrate how culture and human agency interact and, ultimately, affect people' health and survival.

U radu se analiziraju povijesna i povijesno-demografska obilježja stanovništva Komina u 18. i prvoj polovici 19. stoljeća na temelju stanja duša i matice rođenih. Usporedno s antroponimijskom analizom nastoji se dati odgovor na vrijeme nastanka samog mjesta. Analiza dostupnih izvora i literature govori u prilog već iznesene teze o mletačkom napuštanju Čitluka 1715. godine, iako treba istaknuti da svi stanovnici ne dolaze isključivo s toga područja. U radu se također donosi analiza strukture kućanstava i u kraćim crtama prikazuje običaj krsne slave.

OSOBNA IMENA I PREZIMENA U ŽUPI DESNE-RUJNICA U 18. I 19. STOLJEĆU MAJA ŠUNJIĆ SAŽETAK: Povijesno demografsko istraživanje stanovništva župe Desne-Rujnica, s desne obale rijeke Neretve, inicijalno usmjereno na prvu polovicu 19. stoljeća, zahvaljujući raspoloživim izvorima produbljeno je na 18, a u pojedinim segmentima i do sredine 17. stoljeća. Stoga se u ovom radu analiziraju osobna imena iz matičnih knjiga rođenih (1825-1857), te rodovi i njihovo podrijetlo od druge polovice 17. do sredine 19. stoljeća. Rad je dopunjen trima tablicama s pregledom muških i ženskih imena, te s popisom rodova zabilježenih od polovice 17. do polovice 19. stoljeća.

מאמר זה בוחן כיצד שני גלי עלייה מעצבים את דמותה של ישראל: העליות השנייה והשלישית (1904–1923), שיצרו את ה"שלד" הרעיוני והפיזי (קיבוצים, מושבים, הגנה עצמית), והעלייה ההמונית (1951–1965), שהפכה אותו למדינה בת-קיימא. באמצעות ניתוח נתוני הלמ"ס ומחקרים היסטוריים (שפירה, ליסק), מוצג כי העליות המוקדמות, בהנהגת חלוצים ממזרח אירופה, הניחו תשתיות חקלאיות ותחבורתיות אך חסרו מסה אנושית. לעומתן, העלייה ההמונית, 1.2 מיליון עולים, רובם ממדינות ערב הכפילה את האוכלוסייה, הקימה תעשיות (טבע, מכתשים), סללה כבישים (מוביל המים הארצי) ופיתחה את הפריפריה בעיירות פיתוח. השילוב בין חזון החלוצים לעשייה ההמונית הפך את ישראל ממסגרת "שלד" רעיונית למדינה מתועשת חיה שבה אידיאליזם ומשאבים יוצרים סינרגיה לאומית.

В статье представлен анализ данных двухлетнего сплошного анонимного анкетирования учащихся 11-х классов всех школ малых городов Данилова и Пошехонья. Анкета нацелена на определение доли среди этнически русских учащихся тех, которые в процессе ранжирования предложенных четырех форм идентичности поставили на самое важное для себя первое место следующую форму самоидентификации: национальная (российская), этническая (русская), региональная (ярославская), локальная (даниловская или пошехонская). Отмечена приоритетная роль этнической русской идентичности в обоих городах, а также дана попытка объяснить выявленные особенно высокие показатели значения для старшеклассников областной ярославской идентичности в г.  Данилове и локальной пошехонской – в г. Пошехонье.

Es impresionante cómo un eslogan de campaña electoral de un país extranjero logró atravesar fronteras, convirtiéndose en un mantra discursivo de identificación y posicionamiento ideológico. La consigna de Milei se bolivianizó como un símbolo de identidad individual, pertenencia grupal y diferenciación del otro. Sin embargo, el significado de la libertad varía según cada persona.
La libertad, en términos filosóficos, históricos, económicos, políticos, ideológicos y jurídicos en el continente americano, no es homogénea. Aún es un campo de disputas conceptuales, prácticas sociales, relatos históricos y expresiones culturales. Su concepción y desarrollo son complejos debido a su importancia orientadora en los anhelos colectivos e individuales.

In her inaugural lecture, Professor Dorien Manting states that the demographic life courses of people form an important explanation for a multitude of spatial developments. The prolonged period between young people leaving their parental home and the time the start their own family is a fitting example. This period is continually getting longer, compared to the timespan in the past. This has its consequences for spatial development, such as in the degree of urban growth and in the decline in car use among young adults.

Na temelju spisa Kaznenog suda u Dubrovniku iz tri desetljeća 1711/20, 1751/60. i 1791/1800, te drugih izvora istražuju se kazneni postupci u kojima se javljaju djeca i mlađi adolescenti. Utvrđuje se broj kaznenih postupaka u kojima su djeca i mlađi adolescenti žrtve ili počinitelji i njihov udio u ukupnom broju kaznenih djela. Uočavaju se podudarnosti kretanja ukupnog broja kaznenih djela i onih u kojima su sudionici pripadnici spomenutih skupina, naime pad broja najtežih zločina prema kraju stoljeća. Analiziraju se oblici kaznenih djela nad djecom, osobito onih najtežih, ubojstva, čedomorstva i silovanja, te istražuje postupak kaznenog suda prema žrtvama i počiniteljima kaznenih djela dječje i u nekoliko slučajeva rane adolescentne dobi. Rad ukazuje na odnos sudbene vlasti u zaštiti djece i adolescenata te postupanje zajednice u slučaju obiteljskog nasilja.

U radu se na temelju podataka sačuvanih u izvorima te iskaza kazivačica prikazuju promjene u strukturi konavoske obitelji Čeović od sredine XIX. do sredine XX. stoljeća. Opisuje se obiteljska kuća, način stjecanja baštine te konačna podjela imanja. Upućuje se na moguću povezanost biološkog rasta i gospodarskog potencijala te njihov utjecaj na promjenu strukture obitelji.

ΜΙΑ ΜΑΡΤΥΡΙΑ ΓΙΑ ΤΙΣ ΣΕΡΡΕΣ ΤΟΥ ΟΨΙΜΟΥ 19 ΟΥ ΑΙΩΝΑ * Στα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 1880, σε μια εποχή που το Μακεδονικό ζήτημα βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο της πολιτικής των βαλκανικών εθνικών κρατών και της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας, ένας έλληνας αξιωματικός του μηχανικού, ο Νικόλαος Θεολόγου Σχινάς, περιέρχεται-κατά μία πληροφορία μεταμφιεσμένος-τους λιγοστούς αμαξιτούς δρόμους και τα πολλά κακοτράχαλα μονοπάτια της μακεδονικής γης. Οι «οδοιπορικαί σημειώσεις», που κράτησε στην περιήγησή του και εξέδωσε αμέσως μετά το ταξίδι του, αποτέλεσαν ένα εγχειρίδιο διαβίωσης για όποιον υπήκοο του ελληνικού βασιλείου σκόπευε να κινηθεί στην πέραν των ελληνικών συνόρων terra incognita• παράλληλα συνιστούν μία εξαιρετική μαρτυρία για τον κατοπινό αναγνώστη. Tο έργο του ερχόταν επίσης να καλύψει ένα σημαντικό για την εποχή εκείνη κενό στην τότε γνώση και βιβλιογραφία, ενώ το προσωπικό του παράδειγμα οδοιπορίας, περιήγησης και αυτοψίας ήταν ένα άνοιγμα σε μία επιστημονική πρακτική με την οποία οι Έλληνες δεν ήταν εξοικειωμένοι. Το γεγονός επισήμαινε το 1878 μια ιδρυτική μορφή της ελληνικής γεωγραφικής επιστήμης, ο Αντ. Μηλιαράκης, στην εισαγωγή του αποσπάσματος από το οδοιπορικό του Émile Isambert που επιμελήθηκε και εξέδωσε σε μετάφραση. Εκεί, με δεικτικό τρόπο υποστήριζε ότι ουδείς «των παρ' ημίν ευπορούντων εμιμήθη τον Leak, τον Hahn, τον Heuzey, τον Delacoulonche, τον Claubry, ίνα μόνον των νεωτέρων μνησθώμεν, και απήλθε προς περιγραφήν γεωγραφικήν, εθνολογικήν, αρχαιολογικήν, εν κινδύνω και πόνω τας δούλας επαρχίας». Και αμέσως μετά συμπλήρωνε ότι το αποτέλεσμα ήταν ολόκληρες περιοχές Σερραϊκά Σύμμεικτα 5 (2022) 43-68 * Ανακοίνωση στο Διεθνές Συνέδριο «Από την αυτοκρατορία στο εθνικό κράτος.
