Sketches from Melbourne

Sketches from Melbourne, February 2025

Answer: Discovering that said shop is in fact a chain...

We were in Melbourne for the first two weeks of February, with quick trips down the coast and to Hobart. The first week was holiday and second week was all about the Future of Art, Culture and Technology Symposium, at the Australian Center for the Moving Image, where I delivered one of the four keynote speeches. These are some sketches, and postcards, I made during that time. Apparently I forgot to photograph either the day one or the day four postcards so if whoever it is that receives them can take a picture for me, I'd be grateful.

This was the first time I'd been in Melbourne long enough to develop my own opinions about the trams. I was assured by two otherwise reliable sources that the 96 is the best but I think I prefer the 6.

CBD and Brunswick

The first time people from Melbourne start extolling the virtues of the Vietnamese restaurants on Sydney Road can be a little overwhelming, but they are not wrong.

Good breakfast and good fortune

All of the postcards from about day nine onwards were started on the last leg of the flight home and then finished the following week, reflecting how hectic the second half of the trip became.
