Vesna, the Slavic parallel to the Greek goddess Persephone, also known as Zhivana, Zhiva, Siva, Diva, Deva, Devica, or Danica, is the goddess of spring, youth, and life. Her existence is entwined with her diametrically opposite Morana, the goddess of winter and death. They are the forces that represent the change of seasons and keep the ancient Slavic world spinning in a cycle of death and rebirth. Vesna is quite possibly the most adored goddess among the Slavs due to her beauty and abundance. Her arrival signifies the ending of Morana's cold and savage rule, imperfect by starvation, disease, and death. S...

It was Živa that the ancients invoked for her healing powers.
Živa brings still life back to life in the springtime and brings joy back to people. Make life come alive. She oppose it from the goddess (morana, mora ..)
The cuckoo is considered the embodiment of Živa. According to legend, in the spring the cuckoo flies to the earth from Vyraj Iriy, Vyraj, Vyriy or Irij (Slavic "paradise") and counts the hours of birth, life and death.
The Slavs used to guess by the song of the cuckoo not only how much remained to be lived, but also many other important things.
Živa is portrayed as a beautiful woman
light and thick hair;
blue eyes;
White skin;
high cheekbones;
expressive features;
short, straight nose.
............
Živa is such a global phenomenon that the understanding of its purpose cannot be limited to a certain framework. Classically, its functions can be reduced to the following:
guardian of life;
patroness of Yav;
Guardian of world order;
carrier of fertility.
Our ancestors' understanding of the structure of the world is much broader. First of all, Živa received the importance of the generic principle. She is both the keeper of Slavic blood and the life-giving force that fills it.
It is not for nothing that many words in Slavic, everything associated with vital forces or things that give well-being in life had the root "ZIV".
........
It is said that Živa is one of the oldest goddesses.
According to the legends
Živa sister of the god Perun or wife of Dazhbog or Rod ...
or the daughter of Lada and Svarog.
.......
According to versions she had incarnations in the form of three goddesses:
Lelya.
Makosh.
Lada.
She embodies three aspects of a woman:
Lelya is a girl full of enthusiasm and youthful recklessness;
Lada is a young woman in the prime of her life;
Makosh is the mother principle, able to create the wisdom of the whole life cycle.
Through this understanding of the pantheon, the goddess Živa occupied the position of a multifaceted phenomenon encompassing the entire process of the life cycle. Since one of the aspects of the manifestation of the goddess' care was fertility and nature itself, the sacred groves served as her temples.
Other versions
Živa is the daughter of the Mother Goddess, who is personified by both Lada and Makosh. Mother Nature is manifested in the images of mothers in labor: the goddess of love and harmony Lada and the goddess of fate Makosha. Both are the feminine hypostasis of the creative force of the creator of the ROD Universe. Therefore, Živa in different sources is presented either as the daughter of Lada or as the daughter of Makosha.
.........
May 1 - The day of Živa is considered the feast of Živa. Also on March 25 it is celebrated - according to popular belief, on this day the gates of Svarga open and Živa descends to the ground, bringing spring.
On May 1, after midnight, begins the Slavic Spring Festival - Živa Day
On this day people rest and in the evening they make ceremonial bonfires along the banks of the rivers, bathe, clean themselves with cold spring water, dance around the fire, jump over the fire. , start happy games, lead round dances ... and young Slavic women, of course, perform a ritual to acquire love.
......
In Slovenia on the famous Lake Bled, the church was previously a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Živa. In one of the ancient Polish chronicles, which spoke of the beliefs of the Slavs, we speak of the temple of Živa. He says the temple was built on the mountain and called Zywiec.
In the "Slavic Chronicles" of Saxon historian Helmold (12th century), the goddess of life and fertility Siva (Živa) is mentioned as one of the main and supreme deities. It is described that the goddess was especially worshiped by the people of the West Slavic tribe of the Polabs (11th-12th centuries), who lived in the lands where the northern part of Germany is now located.
Since the goddess Živa belonged to the creators who grant fertility, loud festivities were held in her honor. we know that the periods of glorification were spring, summer and the beginning of autumn. According to the echoes of folk rituals, during these periods, agreements were made and family unions were formed .

Slavs, particularly Southern Slavs, name their daughters after the goddess Vesna, believing that they will be just as generous and blissful as the goddess herself. Vesna is portrayed as a beautiful young lady, with a perfect smile, long hair and rosy cheeks, generally wearing a white dress beautified with wreaths and blossoms. There is an especially large wreath around her waist that represents fertility. It was believed that Vesna had the ability to re-establish wellbeing and normal equilibrium, which would bring about an amicable and fertile life. There are various prayers and ceremonies that are performed to bring the spring goddess and force the malicious winter out of the home, such as children playing with the pussy willow catkins and making bellflower wreaths; Eggs were painted red, representing the sun and the warmth brought by Vesna; Girls adorned with flower wreaths and leaves would sing songs to the goddess, and birds returning from their winter migrations were sometimes equated with Vesna’s arrival on the wings of Stribog’s wind. Vesna, with her everlasting youth and effervescence for life, makes the world sweet, youthful, innocent, and beautiful. While it’s not wrong to call her the Goddess of Spring, the correct description is that she is the Goddess of Youth and Rebirth.
