The central part of Yuen Long was traditionally a market town in the area now known as Yuen Long San Hui (元朗新墟), in Yuen Long District in the New Territories West in Hong Kong. The site of the market town was situated centrally with regard to surrounding villages, allowing villagers a convenient location to sell their crops and fish.
The market is a place to allow people from villages in northwest New Territories to shop and trade. Like many market towns in Hong Kong, the market operates only on certain days each week.
Located at the north-eastern part of Yuen Long New Town, the station is quite popular for the abundance of residential buildings nearby. Developers continue to develop housing near the station, with hopes to further increase the usage of the station.
Station layout
Both West Rail Line platforms share the same island platform.
The football teams of the club was originally organised by Yuen Long District Sports Association (Chinese:元朗區體育會). In 2013, Yuen Long Football Club was established and took over the teams.
History
Yuen Long District Sport Association was established by former chairmen of Hong Kong Football Association, Fu Lee Sha and Tsang Sam Chiu in 1959.
The team entered the former Hong Kong Third Division League in 1959–60 season. The team carried a three-year plan to get promotion to First Division. In 1961–62, the team became the first district team to compete in First Division. In 1962–63, the team gained their first top Division League title. In 1967–68, the team captured their first Senior Shield by beating Tung Sing. In 1968–69, the team turned professional until 1972–73 when it focused on a youth squad. In 1978–79, the team beat the league giant Seiko in FA Cup final, which avoided Seiko from capturing all the 6 major tropies in the season. In 1979–80, the team quit the league due to financial problem.

Hong Kong protesters standoff against police after sit-in at Yuen Long station
Hong Kong police confronted hundreds of jeering residents on Wednesday inside a suburban subway station where demonstrators had gathered to protest a mob attack last month.
The masked protesters sprayed fire extinguishers, water, and smeared the floor with cooking oil to stop the police from advancing, while others blocked station exits and sealed roads outside Yuen Long MTR station, in the latest string of violence during anti-government demonstrations since June.
The station was seen vandalized and trashed after the escalated incident subsided and the protesters dispersed.
It was the latest in a series of demonstrations, which have sometimes turned violent, since June against a perceived erosion of freedoms in the Chinese-ruled former British colony.

Keen to learn about Hong Kong’s fascinating indigenous history and clan culture? The Ping Shan Heritage Trail takes you past ancestral halls, temples, walled compounds and Hong Kong’s oldest pagoda, still maintained by descendants of the original Tang settlers. Old-school eateries, traditional teahouses, hawker-style dai pai dongs and lively wet markets give you a taste for nostalgia, literally.
Want to escape the urban hustle? Then head to the low-lying wetlands, bisected by waterways brimming with fauna and flora. If you have family in tow, a day at the Hong Kong Wetland Park, with its excellent visitor centre, justifies the trip on its own. Meanwhile, the western point of Ha Pak Nai, flanked by mountains on one side and the shimmering waters of Deep Bay on the other, is arguably Hong Kong’s top spot for sunset views.
