(Violeta Parra)
Me mandaron una carta
por el correo temprano.
En esa carta me dicen
que cayó preso mi hermano
y, sin lástima, con grillos,
por la calle lo arrastraron, sí.
La carta dice el motivo
que ha cometido Roberto:
haber apoyado el paro
que ya se había resuelto.
Si acaso esto es un motivo,
presa también voy, sargento, sí.
Yo que me encuentro tan lejos,
esperando una noticia,
me viene a decir la carta
que en mi patria no hay justicia:
los hambrientos piden pan,
plomo les da la milicia, sí.
De esta manera pomposa
quieren conservar su asiento
los de abanico y de frac,
sin tener merecimiento.
Van y vienen de la iglesia
y olvidan los mandamientos, sí.
¿Habrase visto insolencia,
barbarie y alevosía,
de presentar el trabuco
y matar a sangre fría
a quien defensa no tiene
con las dos manos vacías?, sí.
La carta que he recebido
me pide contestación.
Yo pido que se propale
por toda la población
que "El León" es un sanguinario
en toda generación, sí.
Por suerte tengo guitarra
para llorar mi dolor;
(1962-1963).

Meeting someone in Italian is often your first real Italian test to practice your language-learning skills when visiting Italy or another Italian-speaking region. So, we're here to help you practice speaking Italian with this Italian Conversation Practice for Beginners. Our native English speaker will say each phrase, and then our native Italian speaker will repeat each phrase in Italian.
These casual Italian phrases are good for friends, family, or just meeting a stranger, who is around the same age as you, in a Italian-speaking country.
In Italian, there are two different ways to translate the singular form of the word “you”: Formal = Lei, Casual = Tu. This video demonstrates a casual conversation between people of approximately the same age, so uses “tu”.
There are a few Italian phrases in this video that end in a/o. The change in these sentences is based on the gender of the speaker or the person being referred to. For example, a man would say "Sono stanco" to say "I'm tired," while a woman would say "Sono stanca." Similarly, a man stating his nationality would say "Sono americano," while a woman would say "Sono americana." If a woman is asked, "Have you ever been to New York?" the correct form would be "Sei mai stata a New York?" but for a man, it would be "Sei mai stato a New York?" Since this video demonstrates two women talking to each other, we use "Sei mai stata a New York?"
Watching and listening to native Italian speakers is the fastest way to learn Italian, so start with this Italian Conversation for Beginners lesson.
When you're finished with this Italian phrases video, check out our channel to learn Italian for free by watching and listening to native Italian speakers. To find out about the latest free Italian lessons, subscribe to Language of Earth today!

Learn Italian phrases with this 100 Italian Phrases for Beginners video! In 14 minutes, you’ll learn many of the common Italian phrases used in everyday life. To help you remember these basic Italian phrases, be sure to repeat each phrase after you hear it. Writing each phrase can also help you learn Italian fast.
In this Italian lesson, our native English speaker will say each phrase, then our native Italian speaker will repeat the phrase in Italian. Watching and listening to native Italian speakers is the fastest way to learn Italian, so start with this "Italian Phrases for Beginners" lesson.
In this Italian phrases video, you'll notice a lot of phrases that end in a/o. For some Italian words, we have to make sure that the word's gender matches the gender of the person, place, or thing we are talking about. In most of the sentences featured in this Italian phrases video, the speaker is talking about herself, so she uses the "a" ending. For example, when we want to say "I am lost" in Italian, a male speaker would say "Mi sono perso", while a female speaker would say "Mi sono persa".
When saying "I'll take it," the thing you are talking about is the object that you are buying so the Italian phrase is "La prendo" or "Lo prendo" depending on the gender of the object. If you are buying a book (il libro - masculine), you would say "Lo prendo". However, if you're buying a chair (la sedia - feminine), you would say "La prendo".
