Lloyd (b. Lloyd Buonconsiglio, 1947, Seattle) and Brown (b. Michael Lookofsky, April 25, 1949, Brooklyn) were introduced by their fathers, Peter Buonconsiglio and Harry Lookofsky, two old friends who had worked together for years as sessionviolinists. Lloyd had been singing for years and had attracted local notice recording as Lloyd London. Brown had led, wrote and played with his group The Left Banke, which had made the U.S.charts with "Walk Away Renee" (#5, 1966) and "Pretty Ballerina" (#15, 1967).
The two set about becoming a Beatlesque band. They recruited New Yorkers Love and Madey and located an interested record label in Kama Sutra. A self-titled album and a single– "I'm Coming Home" (#42, 1972) – followed.
All of the tracks were released on previous albums by Stonehill (some of which remain unavailable on CD to this day), except "I Thirst For You," "Charlie the Weatherman," and the Acoustic Version of "Hope of Glory." These new tracks were recorded at The Green Room, with the Lost Dogs and Terry Scott Taylor producing.
"This record is dedicated with love to the memory of John Mark Heard, who always told the true story."

Dead static air
Sedating every breath
And nothing makes sense
With white noise blaring in my ear
Broken lights have us running blind
In the dark we are burning out
Unexposed and confined
To the world that led us on
As long as there's time left
We are all lost together
We're defined by what we despise
I'm looking for a breach in the wall
That we're putting up
To tear a whole in the life that we're breathin' for
Am I the only one who's thinking?
Tear a whole in the life that we're bleedin' for
Am I the only one scare...

With the same thirst
Nothing but salt to dry our insides out
Dive with me to find out
Just how deep this all goes
And why we need it all
I'll try my best to understand
As long as there's tome left we are all lost
I can't stand to watch them crawl
Slaves to the world that they call home
I can't stand to watch them crawl
Slaves to the world that they call home

The song was about a white man bringing his black girlfriend home to meet his parents who turn out to be racists. The message was timely and the association of the repeated "Louie Louie Louieee" chorus paid tribute to the rock chestnut "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen brought them instant recognition and a #1 pop hit for two weeks. Stories went on to record two more singles that failed to rival "Brother Louie" and the band broke up over the squabbles over the direction they should take. Ian went solo, his only hit being the Ric Ocasek written "Slip Away" that spent nine weeks on the chart, peaking at #50 in 1979. A couple of interesting footnotes to this story is that at a 1976 Lloyd recording session, Mick Jones and Ian MacDonald met and went on to find Lou Gramm to rock the pop charts as Foreigner. The second is when Gladys Knight heard "Brother Louie" she had Neil Bogart approach Stories producer Richie Wise and Kenny Kerner to produce "I've Got To Use My Imagination". She loved the sound they came up with and it resulted in a #4 pop and #1 R&B hit for her and her Pips.
