Wuppertal (German pronunciation:[ˈvʊpɐtaːl]) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in and around the river Wupper valley, and is situated east of the city of Düsseldorf and south of the Ruhr area. With a population of approximately 350,000, it is the largest city in the Bergisches Land. Wuppertal is known for its steep slopes, its woods and parks, and its suspension railway, the Wuppertal Schwebebahn. Two-thirds of the total municipal area of Wuppertal is green space. From any part of the city, it is only a ten-minute walk to one of the public parks or woodland paths.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Wupper valley was one of the largest industrial regions of continental Europe. The increasing demand for coal from the textile mills and blacksmith shops encouraged the expansion of the nearby Ruhrgebiet. Wuppertal still is a major industrial centre, being home to industries such as textiles, metallurgy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, automobiles, rubber, vehicles and printing equipment.
Why Wuppertal's Suspended Monorail Wasn't The Future Of Travel
In Wuppertal, Germany, there's the Schwebebahn: a suspended monorail that carries 80,000 people a day above the streets of the city, and above the river Wupper. It's a wonderful thing: but it wasn't the future of travel, and here's why.

Follow DW’s Lukas Stege to Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
DW Travel Guide Lukas Stege shows you the famous suspension railway in Wuppertal, a spectacular landmark in this city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Wuppertal was once the center of the German textile industry. And philosopher Friedrich Engels, known as one of the founders of Marxism, lived here. In the video you’ll find out why the Engels monument is very popular with Chinese tourists.
Lukas’s climbing session in the hilly Bergisches Land region around Wuppertal is a real highlight. In spite of his fear of heights, he tries to climb up Müngstener Brücke, Germany’s highest railway bridge. It’s breathtaking!

Wuppertal Schwebebahn 1902 & 2015 side by side video
When I found these two videos:
https://youtu.be/EQs5VxNPhzk filmed in 1902
https://youtu.be/DgfRq4kEFro recorded in 2015
I realized it might be possible to line them up side by side to get an impression of what have changed after 113 years.
The left video is left intact and I tried to line up the corresponding scenes in the right one by cutting and manipulating framerates. The duplicated frames in the right video are also present in the original and makes it a bit jerky.
I made this just for fun and did not aim for a 100% match but it is still possible to see how buildings etc. have changed over time.

Schwebebahn: Why Wuppertal's Trains Are Much Cooler Than Yours
Wuppertal has possibly the world's most badass public transport: a 120-year-old swingin' suspension railway. But the question is: why? When everyone else was busy building trams and undergrounds, what made Wuppertal say "NOPE", and build this instead?

Located in the hills of Wuppertal Germany is a unique suspended railway which opened in 1901. This is the oldest monorail system in the world and the only one of its kind. It is amazing to see how this centuries old transportation is still providing fast, efficient, smooth, pollution free, traffic free transportation today! When I found these two videos:

I realized it might be possible to line them up side by side to get an impression of what have changed after 113 years.
The left video is left intact and I tried to line up the corresponding scenes in the right one by cutting and manipulating framerates. The duplicated frames in the right video are also present in the original and makes it a bit jerky.
I made this just for fun and did not aim for a 100% match but it is still possible to see how buildings etc. have changed over time.
