The Woodstock Music & Art Fair—informally, the Woodstock Festival or simply Woodstock—was a music festival attracting an audience of 400,000 people, held over three days on a dairy farm in New York state from August 15 to 17, 1969.
During the sometimes rainy weekend, 32 acts performed outdoors before an audience of 400,000 people. It is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history, as well as the definitive nexus for the larger counterculture generation.
Rolling Stone listed it as one of the 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.
The 1970 theatrical release of the film ran 184 minutes. A director's cut spanning 225 minutes was released in 1994. Both cuts take liberties with the timeline of the festival. However, the opening and closing acts are the same in the film as in real life; Richie Havens opens the show and Jimi Hendrix closes it.
Woodstock is a station on Metra's Union Pacific/Northwest Line located in Woodstock, Illinois. The station is located on the Harvard branch of the Northwest Line and is the last stop before Harvard; inbound trains run as far as Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago. The station is located in the 'K' fare zone. Woodstock is 51.3 miles (82.6km) from Chicago via Metra. The station consists of two grade-level side platforms which serve two tracks; there is a crossover located just north of the station.
At the present time, there is no ticket agent at the Woodstock station. Passengers boarding at Woodstock may buy one-way or weekend pass tickets from the Conductor for cash. Purchases of other types of tickets or purchases using other payment methods must be done at a station with a ticket agent. The closest station with a ticket agent is Crystal Lake.
The gap between Woodstock and Harvard is the longest on the Metra system, with trains traveling through an entire fare zone to reach the other station. It takes 19 minutes to reach Harvard from Woodstock.
