Has the language we use to discuss human rights affected the outcomes of critical humanitarian issues? The language of human rights is the dominant language of moral discussions in today's Western world. Professor James Allan will recount how rights themselves can be understood, setting out the strengths and weaknesses of this approach to understanding political and moral debates and disputes. Allan Bonner: The Greatest Debates
It's been 5 decades since the infamous Kennedy-Nixon presidential debates. How did those debates change modern debating? And looking back from 2010: who won?
It’s a new year and the rocket returns with a blast to take on tax rises, economy worries and a grooming scandal, but what do your co-pilots make of 2025’s headlines so far?
Liam questions why Labour won’t launch a national inquiry into the grooming gangs, whilst Allison thinks the country’s leading party are too hung up with promoting diversity as a strength to investigate any wrongdoing.
Strapping into the rocket for the first voyage of the year is Economist Andrew Lilico who explains exactly why he thinks Former PM Liz Truss didn’t crash the economy with her mini budget.
And there are results from the great ‘Planet Normal Christmas Weigh in’....

This webcast video features Dr. Jurg Ott, the 2010 recipient of ASHG's Allan Award, giving his award presentation and lecture at the ASHG 60th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
The 2010 Allan Award was presented to Jurg Ott, PhD, Professor Emeritus of the Laboratory of Statistical Genetics at Rockefeller University, for his pioneering work in developing the statistical basis and advancing research on linkage analysis and complex disease in humans. His research on the statistics of detecting linkage and association to loci responsible for complex disease have laid the foundation for the success of the current GWAS era. Ott has analyzed gene linkages for various genetic disorders, including hypertension, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, macular degeneration, and retinitis pigmentosa. He also played a key role in developing the background theory for the genetic analysis of complex diseases and the related theory of tests of association. Given the enormous amount of current activity in mapping gene variants associated with complex diseases, Ott's work has made a significant impact on advancing knowledge of both basic and clinical human genetics research.
