Wildlife is the second collaboration between Anthony Phillips and Joji Hirota. The album is culled from recordings made between 1994 and 2000 when Anthony and Joji collaborated on a number of soundtracks for wildlife television programmes in the British Survival series. In addition, Anthony also wrote and recorded the music for a programme in the BBC series Natural World.
Wildlife features selections from the music for the programmes Creatures of the Magic Water (tracks 1-6), Secrets of the Amazon (tracks 7-11), Jaguar: Eater of Souls (tracks 12-13), Serengeti Jigsaw (tracks 14-15), Web of the Spider Monkey (track 16), Dungeons & Dragons (tracks 17-22), Secrets of a Norfolk Wood (tracks 23-25), Bears of the Russian Front (tracks 26-30), Gremlins: Faces in the Forest (track 31), Jurassic Shark (tracks 32-38), and Midway - Island of Life (tracks 39-45).
All programmes represented come from the Survival series except "Midway - Island of Life" which comes from Natural World.
Anthony Edwin "Ant" Phillips (born 23 December 1951, Chiswick, west London) is an English multi-instrumentalist, primarily known as a guitarist, and first coming to prominence as a founding member of the band Genesis. He played guitar and sang backing vocals until leaving in 1970, following the recording of their second album, Trespass. He left due to suffering from stage fright, after being told by his doctor that the best thing would be to leave the band. He is known for his twelve string guitar work, and his influence can be heard throughout Genesis's early output.
Genesis's first album after Phillips's departure, Nursery Cryme, featured two songs which were holdovers from the days when Phillips was in the band: "The Musical Box" (originally called F#) and "The Fountain of Salmacis".
After leaving Genesis, Phillips studied classical music (especially classical guitar) and made recordings in collaboration with Harry Williamson, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins, among others. He played the keyboards on the demos for Peter Gabriel in 1976. His first solo album, The Geese and the Ghost, was issued in 1977.
Anthony Phillips (born July 6, 1966) is an American athlete and businessman who played football at the University of Oklahoma from 1984 until 1988. Twice an All-America pick at offensive guard, he was drafted after his senior year by the NFL's Chicago Bears, but Phillips opted to forgo professional football. Phillips chose a business career instead, and is vice president at Bank of Oklahoma.
Athletic career
Anthony Phillips played for Jenks High School and was selected an All-State defensive tackle. Recruited to the University of Oklahoma to play as a linebacker, Phillips redshirted his first year. As an offensive tackle, the 6'3" 274lb. freshman Phillips played on the 1985 Oklahoma Sooners national championship squad, joining his older brother Jon, who played defensive tackle.
Phillips was an All-Big Eight conference pick as an offensive tackle during his national championship freshman year, and selected academic All-Big Eight. In 1986, Phillips was switched to offensive guard his sophomore year and was chosen all-conference and All-America at the new position, as well as academic All-Big Eight; the 1986 Sooners ended the season ranked #2. In his 1987 junior campaign, Phillips returned a starter at offensive guard and was again selected football and academic all-conference; the 1987 Sooners went undefeated during the regular season, but lost the national championship to Miami in the 1988 Orange Bowl. The 1988 Sooners team finished ranked #14, but Phillips was again selected All-Big Eight and consensus All-America, and for the fourth consecutive year, academic all-conference. In addition, in his senior year his commitment to athletics and academics was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America, selecting him Academic All-America, and the NCAA, naming him one of the Today's Top Six student athletes.
Wildlife can be found in all ecosystems. Deserts, forests, rain forests, plains, grasslands, and other areas including the most developed urban sites, all have distinct forms of wildlife. While the term in popular culture usually refers to animals that are untouched by human factors, most scientists agree that much wildlife is affected by human activities.
Humans have historically tended to separate civilization from wildlife in a number of ways including the legal, social, and moral sense. Some animals, however, have adapted to suburban environments. This includes such animals as domesticated cats, dogs, mice, and gerbils. Some religions have often declared certain animals to be sacred, and in modern times concern for the natural environment has provoked activists to protest the exploitation of wildlife for human benefit or entertainment.
Wildlife is an album by American jazz musician Joe Morris, which was recorded in 2008 and released on the AUM Fidelity label. It was the debut recording by a new group featuring saxophonist Petr Cancura and drummer Luther Gray. Morris plays bass instead of guitar.
Reception
In his review for AllMusic, Phil Freeman states "There's a lot of Ayler in Cancura's tone; he's a powerful player with a strong sense of melody, always retaining an essential cohesion within his solos, even at their most fervid. Gray is all over the kit, guiding the other two men and maintaining a forceful momentum."
The All About Jazz review by Troy Collins says that "The trio embraces a wide range of spatial dynamics on this expansive set, with the majority of their probing explorations conjuring the bristling frenzy of New Thing era expressionism."
Wildlife is the second studio album by American post-hardcore band La Dispute, released October 4, 2011, on independent label No Sleep Records. Recording sessions for the album took place primarily at StadiumRed in New York in April 2011. The band members took control of all of the production duties alongside the album's recording engineers, Andrew Everding and Joseph Pedulla. Wildlife was their last release on No Sleep Records before forming their own record label, Better Living.
Noted by music writers for its varied elements, Wildlife incorporates musical components from La Dispute's previous releases, particularly Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair and Here, Hear III., and genres such as screamo, progressive rock and post-rock. The album features lyrical themes that – while making several references to the band's home town of Grand Rapids – focus on personal loss, anger, and despair and, in the vision of the band, is a collection of unpublished "short stories" from a hypothetical author, complete with the author’s notes and sectioned thematically by the use of four monologues.

I talked to Phillips yesterday and told him about my chat with Hackett six months ago. When I reminded him that he was one of the most prolific member of Genesis Hackett quickly mentioned Anthony Phillips who has been involved in almost 60 recording – solo, collaborations and collections.
I had to ask Phillips about their relationship.
We just did a story on Linda Ronstadt not liking any of her albums – she couldn't even listen to them. It wasn't exactly news since she's publicly said many times that she wasn't crazy about any of her hits especially the stuff from the 70 so I had to ask the guitarist if he can listen to his older stuff?
Phillips has just released a remastered 2-disc deluxe edition of his album “Invisible Men” that was originally released in the U.S. in 1983 and 84 in the U.K. It was a departure for the guitarist since, for the most part, It was a pop project. Something he had mixed feelings about releasing.
John Beaudin has been in major market radio (Edmonton, Vancouver & Calgary) for 33 years and a music journalist since 1989. He graduated from Broadcasting school as a news man so he would have the skills to write about the artists that inspired him since he bought his first album, “Madman Across The Water” by Elton John as a teen. In the 80's Beaudin was the host of the syndicated radio show “The Cross Canada Report” which had two version (Rock and A/C). Beaudin was also asked to be a judge at the Juno Awards (Canada's answer to the Grammys) Twice. He has anchored every position in radio including morning and afternoon drive and was a Program and Music Director for The Breeze and California 103 in Calgary. He currently hosts the popular Lovesongs at QM-FM in Vancouver and on iHeartRadio.
