It is unclear what happened to the boys after they disappeared in the Tower. It is generally assumed that they were murdered and the most common theory is that they were murdered by Richard in an attempt to secure his hold on the throne. The murder may have occurred some time around 1483, but apart from their disappearance, the only evidence is circumstantial. As a result, a number of other theories about what happened to them have been put forward, including the suggestion that they might have been murdered by Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham or Henry VII, among others. It has also been suggested that one or both princes may have escaped assassination. In 1487, Lambert Simnel initially claimed to be Richard, Duke of York, but later claimed to be Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick. From 1491 until his capture in 1497, Perkin Warbeck claimed to be Richard, Duke of York, having supposedly escaped to Flanders. Warbeck's claim was supported by some contemporaries (including the aunt of the princes, Margaret of York).
The mystery of the Princes in the Tower. Will we ever know what happened to Edward V and his younger brother Richard, Duke of York? The princes, who were 12 and 9 years old at the time of their disappearance, were taken into custody at the Tower of London by their uncle, the future Richard III, after the sudden death of their father King Edward IV. The boys disappeared from the Tower in the autumn of 1483. Speculation over their fate remains to this day and many questions remain unanswered. Murdered or survived? What do you think?

The Princes In The Tower 1483
Edward and Richard were Edward IV's 2 leg. sons. This highly fictitional documentary is entertaining. The saddest part isthat Tudor was a usurper - barred from the throne by both RII and HIV on grounds of illegitamacy; his anscestors derived from the unmarried union between John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford - subsuquently legitramized under strict condition those descenents never claimed the throne.
Perkin Warbeck was probably not Richard but it is interesting his face was beaten beyond recognition before hanging. So he must have looked like a king. However, losing the battle (Stoke) was his and his royal supporters failure.

Princes in the Tower: The Ugly Truth
Princes In The Tower were the sons of Edward IV, who died in 1483. At the time, his son's Richard and his elder brother Edward was now the new King Edward V. But Richard, Duke of Gloucester, had his own plans, and these would not include the princes! The boys would be locked away in the Tower of London under a veil of secrecy.
It would be Henry Tudor who was the man to remove Richard finally. Rebels joined Henry in overthrowing this most feared man. Richard had been labelled as the usurper to the throne and the murderer of the young princes.
It seems the powers would do anything to help Henry take the throne and remove once and for all a King who had caused so much sorrow.

However mysteriously as summer 1483 passed on, the two princes became seen less often to the point where they were never seen again. The Princes In The Tower mystery has captivated millions for centuries and still 500 years on we are no closer to establishing a definite answer as to what happened to the two young boys. There are a number of suspects though, including the most prominent Richard III. Historians sometimes consider that Richard was the most likely culprit having the two boys murdered so he could take the throne, as he quickly became King after he declared the boys illegitimate.
There are a number of suspects and possibilities, however nothing is concrete. Henry VII, Henry Stafford the 2nd Duke of Buckingham are also suspected, but when bones were found under a staircase inside the Tower of London during Charles II's reign, these were taken as belonging to the boys. No DNA testing has even been conducted on these remains, but they remain interred in Westminster Abbey in an incredibly powerful position inside Henry VII's Lady Chapel. The fact these bones were placed inside the Abbey shows that in the 17th century they believed these to actually have been the remains. But it shows you that even a century or so after the disappearance, the mystery captivated England. Join us today as we take an in-depth look at, 'What happened to the Princes In The Tower?' It is unclear what happened to the boys after they disappeared in the Tower.
(Lyrics: Crosby; Music: Robinson/Hochheiser) I the judge and the jury I deliver the sentence You who've not seen the light of day shall die before you awaken There is no force in my life that I cannot control I have your seed, I spit it on the ground I will not reap what you've sown On the widow's walk he waits for thee On the widow's walk I call your name I'll give to you what you gave to me a term of confusion and pain I stand alone, await your return I have nothing to gain I'll give to you what you gave to me a term of confusion and pain I stand alone, await your return I have nothing to gain You can change fate's decree On the widow's walk, I wait for thee
