Biography
1969–1989: Early life and career beginnings
McKnight was born in Buffalo, New York. His musical career began in childhood when he became a member of his church choir.
1990–1997: Mercury Records
In 1990, McKnight's older brother, Claude McKnight III, and his band, Take 6, signed a record deal with Warner Brothers. This encouraged McKnight to shop his own demo tapes and by the age of 19, he'd signed his first recording deal with Mercury Records subsidiary, Wing Records. In 1992, Brian McKnight was released, and his self-titled debut peaked at fifty-eight in the Billboard 200 chart, which primarily featured the ballad (and top twenty single) "One Last Cry". It was followed by two more albums for Mercury, 1995's I Remember You and 1997's Anytime. Anytime, McKnight's final album with Mercury, sold over two million copies and was nominated for a Grammy. The video for "Anytime", directed by Darren Grant, was nominated for Best Male Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. In 1997, McKnight recorded "Remember the Magic" for Disney World's 25th anniversary.
Brian McKnight received positive reviews from most music critics. Entertainment Weekly writer Havelock Nelson, gave the album an A-rating citing that "McKnight is the most comforting R&B singer-songwriter to emerge since Keith Washington early last year."
Whatever You Want is the twelfth studio 1979rock album by the British band Status Quo. It features 10 tracks including the title track.
This was the band's third album to be produced by Pip Williams. Recording began in December 1978 at Hilversum Studios in the Netherlands, with the final mixes being completed in London in March 1979. The album was released on 12 October 1979 and entered the chart on 20 October 1979, reaching as high as no. 4. The first single from the album — "Whatever You Want" — was released on 14 September, with "Hard Ride" as the B-side, and also reached a peak position of no. 4. The second single from the album was "Living On an Island", the B-side being "Runaway". This was released on 16 November 1979 and reached no. 16 in the chart.
The album was remixed for the US market and this version was released in the USA as Now Hear This in 1980, although it has never been released on CD anywhere in the world. The tracks "Whatever You Want" and "Living On an Island" were also swapped in the running order of the US remixed version.
"Whatever You Want" is the title of a number-one R&B single written by Tony! Toni! Tone! member Dwayne Wiggins and also performed by the group. It was the fourth and final single released from their second album, The Revival. The song spent two weeks at number one on the US R&B chart and peaked at number forty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100. It was their first single that did not feature Raphael on lead vocals.
The song was sampled in Kelly Price's "Soul of a Woman", in the remix of Ludacris's "Splash Waterfalls", and in "Lovin Me" by rapper Nelly.
