The convention was held during a year of violence, political turbulence, and civil unrest, particularly riots in more than 100 cities following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4. The convention also followed the assassination of Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Robert F. Kennedy of New York, on June 5. Both Kennedy and Senator Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota had been running against the eventual Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Hubert Humphrey.
The National Convention was an alliance of political parties in South-West Africa. It was formed in 1971 when the International Court of Justice ruled that South African rule in Namibia was illegal, and it consisted of various pro-independence groups and parties, including the South West Africa National Union (SWANU), the South West Africa Peoples Organization (SWAPO) and the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) formed the National Convention as a united front against South African rule.Clemens Kapuuo was its first head.

The 1860 Democratic National Convention convened at South Carolina Institute Hall (destroyed in the Great Fire of 1861) in Charleston, South Carolina on 23 April 1860. Charleston was probably the most pro-slavery city in the U.S. at the time, and the galleries at the convention were packed with pro-slavery spectators.
The front-runner for the nomination was Douglas. Douglas was considered a moderate on the slavery issue. With the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act, he advanced the doctrine of popular sovereignty: allowing settlers in each Territory to decide for themselves whether slavery would be allowed - a change from the flat prohibition of slavery in most Territories under the Missouri Compromise, which the South had welcomed.
There are 4,764 delegates to the Democratic National Convention, so a candidate needs 2,383 delegates to win the presidential nomination.
Background
In 2016, both the Republican and Democratic conventions will be held in late July before the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, instead of after the Olympics like in 2008 and 2012. One reason why the Republican Party wanted a July convention was to help avoid a drawn-out primary battle similar to what happened in 2012 that left the party fractured heading into the general election. The Democrats then followed suit so they could provide a quicker response to the Republicans, whose convention will be held the week prior.
The 1832 Democratic National Convention was held from May 21 to May 23, 1832, in Baltimore, Maryland at the landmark civic, literary and social hall, "The Athenaneum" (the first) at St. Paul and East Lexington Streets - later burned in the Baltimore bank riot of 1835, (west of the City/County Courthouse) and later at "Warfield's Church (thought to be the First Universalist Church at North Calvert and East Pleasant Streets?). This was the first national convention of the Democratic Party of the United States; it followed presidential nominating conventions held previously by the small minority Anti-Masonic Party (in September 1831) and the National Republican Party (in December 1831). The purpose of the convention was to choose a running mate for incumbent PresidentAndrew Jackson of Tennessee, rather than the previous methods of using a caucus of Congressional representatives and senators. The delegates nominated former Secretary of StateMartin Van Buren (of New York) for Vice President to replace and succeed the earlier incumbent John C. Calhoun of South Carolina (whom Jackson had fallen out with over the nullification controversy), and endorsed Jackson's reelection.
"Chicago" is a song by American recording artist Michael Jackson. The song was originally recorded during the Invincible recording sessions under the name "She Was Lovin' Me". A reworked version of the song was included in Jackson's posthumous album Xscape.
It was first revealed that "Chicago" would be the first release from the Xscape album. However, plans changed and "Love Never Felt So Good" became the debut release instead.
Release
The song was released on May 5, 2014 on Sony Entertainment Network as a promotional single for promoting Xscape.
Remix
The song's "Papercha$er Remix" was made available for select Sony customers through Xperia Lounge and Music Unlimited as Track 9 of the standard edition.
Chicago (also Chicago/State in station announcements) is a rapid transit station on the Red Line of the Chicago 'L'. It serves a significant portion of the Near North Side and Streeterville neighborhoods. With 5,259,992 overall boardings in 2014, it is the busiest station on the Red Line north of the Loop.
Location
The second stop on the Red Line north of the Chicago River, Chicago station lies in the central portion of the Near North Side. Specifically, it is located underneath the intersection of State Street and Chicago Avenue. It is three blocks west of the northern section of the Magnificent Mile; the Chicago Water Tower is located on that strip at the intersection of Chicago and Michigan Avenues. It is also the closest 'L' station to the John Hancock Center, Holy Name Cathedral, the Rush Street entertainment district, and the downtown campus of Loyola University Chicago. The Chicago campus of the Moody Bible Institute is also nearby.
History
The Chicago station opened on October 17, 1943, as part of the State Street Subway, which forms the central portion of what is now the Red Line between North/Clybourn and Roosevelt stations.
A look back at the 1968 Democratic convention and its relevance today
Chicago has hosted more presidential nominating conventions than any other U.S. city, going back to Abraham Lincoln in 1860. The notorious and consequential 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago occurred when divisions over the Vietnam War sparked major protests in the city. Judy Woodruff traveled to the city for her series, America at a Crossroads.

They'll try to stop the dream we're dreamin' But they can't stop us from believing They will fill your head with doubt But that won't stop us now So let them say we can't do it Put up a road block We'll just run right through it.. Cause... We can, do the impossible We have the power in our hands And we won't stop 'cause we've got To make a difference in this life With one voice, one heart, two hands, we can They say the odds are stacked against us But that can't hold us back, we will be relentless There's a voice they're gonna hear A voice so loud and clear So let them say we can't do it, give us a mountain, and we're gonna move it.. cause.. We can, do the impossible We have the power in our hands, and we won't stop Cause we've got to make a difference in this life With one voice, one heart, Two hands, we can We're gonna make a change today (make a change today) Because we've got the faith it takes To win this race, so let them say we can't do it Put up a road block And we'll just run right through it cuz.. We can, do the impossible We have the power in our hands and we won't stop Cos we've got to make a difference in this life With one voice, one heart Two hands, we can I can (oh I can) Do the impossible (do the impossible) I have the power in my hands, and I won't stop Cause I've got to make a difference in this life With my one voice, one heart, two hands, we can
