Higgs Boson (The God Particle) and Higgs Field Explained in Simple Words
The Higgs boson is a wave, ripple or disturbance in an invisible, all-permeating field called the Higgs field. In the year 1964, Peter Higgs, François Englert and four other scientists proposed a rather unique idea to explain why certain particles had mass. They hypothesized that the entire universe is filled with an invisible, all-permeating field that gives mass to all elementary particles.
The field in question is called the Higgs field. A wave, ripple or disturbance in that field is therefore called the Higgs boson, or the Higgs particle.
This theory suggests that particles do not have a mass of their own; rather, they get their mass by interacting with the Higgs field. How heavy a particle is will be determined by how strongly a particle interacts with the Higgs field. Electrons, qu...

The Higgs mechanism is meant to account for the mass of everything, right? Well no, only the fundamental particles, which means that electrons derive their mass entirely from the Higgs interaction but protons and neutrons, made of quarks, do not. In fact the quark masses are so small that they only make up about 1% of the mass of the proton (and a similar fraction of the neutron). The rest of the mass comes from the energy in the gluon field. Gluons are massless, but there is so much energy in the field that by E=mc^2 there is a significant amount of mass there. The field in question is called the Higgs field. A wave, ripple or disturbance in that field is therefore called the Higgs boson, or the Higgs particle.
This theory suggests that particles do not have a mass of their own; rather, they get their mass by interacting with the Higgs field. How heavy a particle is will be determined by how strongly a particle interacts with the Higgs field. Electrons, quarks and other elementary particles interact with the Higgs field in different ways and therefore have different masses. Photons, however, don’t interact with the field, and thus have no mass.

New in Vue 11.5, EcoParticles can be set to collide with static EcoSystem instances in the scene. Here, the particles are turning green after colliding with EcoSystem instances (stacked EcoSystem of rocks), and turning red after hitting the ground.

Creating Particle Effects Without Particles
The beginning area of my game is planned to be set in a forest environment, so I've been working on assets and effects for filling out that space. I took some time out of the dev schedule to record a little trick I've been using for particle effects that's been quite effective for me so far, and probably pretty applicable to other projects as well. Also seen in the video are some preliminary character work, and a dithered see-through shader.
Note: in the tutorial segment, I forgot to indicate that you need to create an orthographic camera in the comp with the particles in order to prevent particles from moving out of the plane they were born in. Either that or use a 2D particle system. This is an issue because the particle effect I was using (particular) does not support per-axis particle...

How life emerges from a simple particle motion law: Introducing the Primordial Particle Systems
Self-structuring patterns can be observed all over the universe, from galaxies to molecules to living matter, yet their emergence is waiting for full understanding. We discovered a simple motion law for moving and interacting self-propelled particles leading to a self-structuring, self-reproducing and selfsustaining life-like system. The patterns emerging within this system resemble patterns found in living organisms. The emergent cells we found show a distinct life cycle and even create their own ecosystem from scratch. These structures grow and reproduce on their own, show self-driven behavior and interact with each other. Here we analyze the macroscopic properties of the emerging ecology, as well as the microscopic properties of the mechanism that leads to it. Basic properties of the emerging structures (size distributions, longevity) are analyzed as well as their resilience against sensor or actuation noise.
