Welshpool (Welsh:Y Trallwng) is a town in Wales, historically in the county of Montgomeryshire, but currently administered as part of the unitary authority of Powys. The town is 4 miles (6km) from the Wales–England border and low-lying on the River Severn; its Welsh language name Y Trallwng literally means "the marshy or sinking land". Welshpool is the fourth largest town in Powys.
St Cynfelin (he is also known as St Matu) is reputed to be the founder of the church of St Mary's and St Cynfelin's in the town during "the age of the saints in Wales" in the 5th and 6th centuries.

Port Welshpool
Port Welshpool is a town in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. It is located 191 km (118 mi) south-east of Melbourne, on Corner Inlet and in 2016 had a population of 331. Whalers first used the area as early as the 1830s. The town built a long jetty for loading and unloading fish catches, cattle and timber. The arrival of the railway in 1891 allowed the local produce to be transported to Melbourne for sale. Little Snake Island sits a few hundred metres offshore from the jetty.
An unfortunate event in the town's history was the beaching of 300 whales in 1957 that attracted about 10,000 people to the township.
