Belonging to the universe | Warren Anderson | TEDxJacksonville
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In his TEDxJacksonville talk, Anderson implores us to restore our link to nature, to turn off our television sets and smart phones, and go explore the magnificent resources in our own backyards. “To love everything, everywhere,” says Anderson, “you’ve got to love something, somewhere . . . our somewhere can be HERE.”
Warren Anderson invites you to go back to your childhood, to think about those special places in the great outdoors that first introduced you to the awesome majesty of the natural world. When did that sense of communion fade? What has happened to those places? Have those natural cathedrals been paved over for parking lots, or are they just waiting for you to rediscover them?

Hunting The Corporate Killers - Trailer
Warren Anderson, the man many people consider to be responsible for the world's worst industrial tragedy, continues to defy attempts to hold him accountable.
In December 1984 a toxic gas cloud from the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal silently enveloped the surrounding city. The gas ate away at victims' lungs and throats, causing the deaths of up to 10,000 people.

"This tragedy happened 26 years ago, and it was a terrible tragedy, one of the worst industrial accidents in human history, and we certainly hope that the verdict brings some closure to the families of the victims of this tragedy. But just as we were talking about earlier, last week, we had a strategic dialogue with India. Our countries are closely connected. Our economies are increasingly closely connected. So I certainly would hope that this particular case does not inhibit ... the continuing expansion of economic, cultural, and political ties between our two countries. And I have - we fully expect that this will not be the case."

STORYLINE
The United States has declined to take any action against Union Carbide after a Indian court convicted seven former senior employees of the company for "death by negligence" in the world's worst industrial disaster.
The 1984 leak of toxic gas killed an estimated 15-thousand people.
US officials welcomed Monday's verdict and hoped it would bring a measure of "closure."
"But I don't expect this verdict to reopen any new, you know, inquiries or anything like that. On the contrary, we hope that this is going to help to bring closure," said Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Robert Blake.
"It was a terrible tragedy, one of the worst industrial accidents in human history, and we certainly hope that the verdict brings some closure to the families of the victims of this tragedy, " US State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley said, during a news briefing Monday.
Crowley hastened to add that he hoped the matter would not adversely affect growing bilateral ties.
"We have a strategic dialogue with India. Our countries are closely connected. Our economies are increasingly closely connected."
"So I certainly would hope that this particular case does not inhibit - or the continuing expansion of economic, cultural, and political ties between our two countries," he told reporters. "We fully expect that this will not be the case."
But survivors of the Bhopal accident, some of whom had gathered outside the court chanting slogans, said the light sentences - two years in prison - were too little, too late given the scale of the damage.
In India's notoriously slow justice system, the appeal process could drag on for years, even decades, while those convicted remain free on bail.
Lingering effects of the poison raised the death toll to about 15-thousand over the next few years, according to government estimates.
American's extradition.

"With respect to Bhopal, obviously that was one of the greatest industrial tragedies and industrial accidents in human history. And let me just say that we hope that this verdict today helps to bring some closure to the victims and their families. But I don't expect this verdict to reopen any new, you know, inquiries or anything like that. On the contrary, we hope that this is going to help to bring closure."

"As to... the Indian parliament will have to make judgment on the nuclear liabilities bill, but this criminal case should have no relation to the liability legislation currently before the parliament."
