Vulnerability is mainly caused by habitat loss or destruction. Vulnerable habitat or species are monitored and can become increasingly threatened. Some species listed as "vulnerable" may be common in captivity, an example being the military macaw.
There are currently 4728 animals and 4914 plants classified as vulnerable, compared with 1998 levels of 2815 and 3222, respectively.
Criteria
The International Union for Conservation of Nature uses several criteria to enter species in this category. A taxon is Vulnerable when it is not Critically Endangered or Endangered but is facing a high risk of extinction in the wild in the medium-term future, as defined by any of the following criteria (A to E):
A) Population reduction in the form of either of the following:
An observed, estimated, inferred or suspected reduction of at least 20% over the last 10 years or three generations, whichever is the longer, based on (and specifying) any of the following:
direct observation
an index of abundance appropriate for the taxon
a decline in area of occupancy, extent of occurrence and/or quality of habitat

Most Endangered Species | Comparison
Many different kinds of wildlife across the world are in danger, but we’ve created a world’s most endangered species list to put a spotlight on just how small some populations are. These almost-extinct animals are in some dire straits, with some populations having less than a hundred left!
This is a comparison of 32 Endangered Species, Ranked by Their Current Population Left.

What Is a Vulnerable Species? Vulnerable Species Definition
WHAT IS A VULNERABLE SPECIES? A vulnerable species is any kind of species that is at risk of becoming extinct. Often species are vulnerable because they lose their homes. Vulnerable species are those that have a steady drop in population over time. Finally, these species will likely become endangered or extinct if threats to their survival aren't fixed.
Other topics include vulnerable species definition, vulnerable species example, difference between endangered and vulnerable species, and vulnerable species in the Philippines.
