Unreal Tournament 2004 features most of the content of its predecessor. Among significant changes to gameplay mechanics and visual presentation, one of the major additions introduced by Unreal Tournament 2004 is the inclusion of vehicles and the Onslaught game type, allowing for large-scale battles.
A long time ago the humans fought a war with the Skaarj, which left their galactic empire in shambles. To assist in the rebuilding of the colonies by calming down enraged colonists, the Liandri Corporation came up with the idea of staging a gladiatorial tournament for the miners. The interest was so high that it grew into a sport, with sponsored teams battling in specially made arenas.
Unreal Tournament was designed as an arena first-person shooter, with head-to-head multiplayer deathmatches being the primary focus of the game. The game's single-player campaign is essentially a series of arena matches played with bots. For team matches, bots are again used to fill the roles of the player's teammates. Even on dedicated multiplayer servers, bots are sometimes used to pad out teams that are short on players.
Unreal Tournament is known and widely praised for its bot artificial intelligence (AI), the product of programmer Steve Polge who had earlier risen to fame by designing the Reaper Bot for Quake, one of the earliest examples of an effective deathmatch bot. The player can choose a bot skill level (anywhere from "Novice" to "Godlike") or set it to automatically adjust to the player's performance. Bots can be further customized by changing names, appearance, accuracy, weapon preferences, awareness, and so forth.
Unreal is a series of first-person shootervideo games developed by Epic Games. The series is known for its exhibition of the Unreal Engine that powers the games and is available for other developers to license. As a result of Epic's focus on the engine technology, much of the creative workload such as map design has traditionally been outsourced to other studios, namely Digital Extremes. Legend Entertainment was brought in for the first game's expansion pack and its sequel, Unreal II: The Awakening. For the latest installment, however, Epic completed all design work in-house.
Publishing rights for the series have changed hands several times. GT Interactive was the original publisher, and a series of acquisitions and corporate restructurings eventually led to Infogrames and then Atari inheriting the relationship. However, during the production of Unreal Tournament 2004 there was a financial dispute between Epic and Atari, culminating in the gold master being held hostage in exchange for milestone and royalty payments. After dealing with that episode, Epic elected to take the publishing rights elsewhere for future titles and eventually settled on a deal with Midway Games.
Unreal Tournament's development is crowdsourced and open to contribution from anyone. Epic Games has been using forums for discussions, and Twitch livestreams for regular updates. The source code of the game was published on GitHub, and is available for everyone.
Gameplay
Gameplay will remain largely unchanged from past iterations of the Unreal Tournament series. Despite not being confirmed yet, the gametypes expected to return are:
Assault — This game type is played with two opposing teams, one assaulting a "base" and the other defending it. The map is set up with a countdown timer and a number of objectives which the attacking team must complete (usually in sequence) such as destroying a power generator, entering an area, triggering a button, etc. The team who first attacks then defends, and attempts to defend for the entire time they attacked. This means one key element: speed. The faster the first team completes their attack, the lesser time they need to defend. If they can defend their base till the last second, they win the map. If the team defending first assaults the base faster than the other team, they win the map. If both teams defend for the maximum amount of time the map is a tie.

Unreal Tournament 1999 final match: Xan: GODLIKE
I made this video before I started playing deathmatch with other players; it has only been about a year since I started playing DM online. I have improved so much that I am ashamed of my performance in this video lol. I revisited this and it came out with a much better result. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ5-tJFfN1M

Unreal Tournament 1999: Facing Worlds Gameplay
This is a video of offline gameplay on the Capture the Flag map "Facing Worlds".
Facing Worlds - Two large towers stand on a spinning asteroid with a deadly no-man's land between.
The first half of the video is against the AI at the skilled difficulty (4th easiest difficulty), and the second half is against AI at the adept difficulty (4th hardest difficulty). The difference is noticeable.
After the adept difficulty, it's like the bots get exponentially harder until you reach the hardest, Godlike. Unless your aiming skills rival that of an aimbot and your dodging skills rival that of a ninja, you'll have a tough time. Which is to say I get destroyed.
