Come practice with me! Today on Musings with Inbal I’ll talk about the Courante from Bach’s Suite No. 1. My lesson will include a look at the overall (and simple) harmonic and melodic structure -- then a discussion about other techniques Bach uses in this movement.

Here is a close look at another movement from Bach's Cello Suite No. 3 in C Major, BWV 1009, the Courante, where I talk about phrasing and sub phrasing by bars as well as bringing out important beats, fingerings and more. Here is a close look at another movement from Bach's Cello Suite No. 3 in C Major, BWV 1009, the Courante, where I talk about phrasing and sub phrasing by bars as well as bringing out important beats, fingerings and more. "The Fencing Master" and the sequel, "Bach and the Happy Few," are both must reads if I may say so, written by THE baroque cellist of our time, Anner Bylsma.

Another must-have is Barenreiter’s urtext edition, which contains facsimiles of the manuscript copies in the hand of Anna Magdalena Bach, Johann Peter Kellner, as well as the Westphal library manuscript (anonymous copiers), first editions, and more.
