Backlash over North Face's Pride month campaign
For a long time, big companies ignored LGBTQ+ people — or if they did appear in ads, they were stereotyped and caricatured. Only after companies gained an understanding of LGBTQ+ people's spending power and noticed larger customer bases supporting LGBTQ+ rights did corporations’ marketing efforts slowly become more inclusive. #shorts #northface #pattiegonia #pridemonth #lgbtq

UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman faces backlash over 'racist' comments about British-Pakistani men
UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman faced backlash over ‘racist’ comments, after claiming during a live interview with Sky News, that vulnerable white English girls are often abused by British-Pakistani men, while authorities and civil society turn a blind eye “out of political correctness”.
Research conducted by the UK Home Office in 2020 concluded that group-based child sexual exploitation offenders in the UK are "most commonly white".

Why do we need to research backlash against women's rights and gender equality?
Global progress on gender equality is under threat. Political and social shifts are visibly pushing back to reverse many of the gains made for women’s rights. Building on IDS’ 40 year history on the frontline of progress in ‘gender and development’ a new five-year programme of work will create much needed new knowledge of these complex phenomena, and identify opportunities for women’s rights organisations and other gender justice defenders to counter backlash and address the erosion of gender objectives within development.

Why the world fears refugees (Narrated by Zygmunt Bauman)
Zygmunt Bauman, one of the most influential thinkers of our time, says many Europeans' fear of refugees boils down to the idea of the “precariat” - people whose lives are marked by precariousness, anxiety and fear.
As more EU countries raise walls and the backlash against foreigners grows, Al Jazeera spoke to the Polish sociologist about why people fear refugees.

Feminism is a key sociological theory. All feminists argue that society is patriarchal (male-dominated) but they disagree about the extent of this today, the causes of it and the solutions.
Feminist can be categorised into:
Liberal feminists - whose views of feminism focus on legal equality between the sexes: equal rights. Since women got the vote, the Equal Pay Act, the Sex Discrimination Act and various other advances, their battle is largely won. However, concern remains about the gender pay gap, “glass ceiling” and situations in other countries.
Radical feminists - who see patriarchy as inherent in all social structures: it needs radical change, not just legal change. Some radical feminists favour separatism; they believe relationships between men and women cannot be equal because of the threat of violence.
Marxist feminists - who believe women are oppressed by patriarchy and capitalism. Gender and class are equally important.
Difference feminists - who believe women are oppressed by patriarchy, capitalism and racism. “Intersectionality”.
Postmodern feminists: see femininity is an identity of choice which can be celebrated, rather than rejected.

Backlash (1956)- Richard Widmark
Backlash is a 1956 Technicolor Western film directed by John Sturges starring Richard Widmark and Donna Reed.
It was directed by John Sturges (with whom Widmark would also make another western The Law and Jake Wade), and unfolds in the vein of the psychological Western (a subgenre that has yielded many films, e.g. those of Anthony Mann, with whose films this bears comparison). It delivers an unconventional story, written by Borden Chase, that sometimes crosses into film noir, as a colorful cast of supporting characters help or hinder the protagonist during the unfolding of its central mystery.

Run for the Sun 1956 HD. Richard Widmark, Trevor Howard & Jane Greer
In Central America, an action-adventure novelist and a journalist for a magazine find themselves at the mercy of Nazi war criminals.
Director: Roy Boulting
Writers: Roy Boulting, Richard Connell (story "The Most Dangerous Game") | 1 more credit »
Stars: Richard Widmark, Trevor Howard, Jane Greer |Many film-critics said that this was the first re-make of the most dangerous game. While I can see some similarities I can safely assume that this film was the product of the writers own imagination.
TMDG was about a Count on a Pacific Island who hunted men who became shipwrecked on his beach. In this movie Richard Widmark and his honey (Jane Greer) crash land on Trevor Howard's island when his plane's navigation screws up. At first Howard seems hospitable but Widmark soon learns (and remembers) ...

Legendary Hollywood director JOHN STURGES breathed new life into the Western and brought it to another level of greatness, with such landmark movies as The Magnificent Seven and Gunfight at the OK Coral.
Backlash is a highly original, unconventional Western, brimming with tense, violent action and a plot riddled with mystery and suspense. Featuring RICHARD WIDMARK, the menacing and unforgettable star of film noir masterpieces Kiss of Death and Panic in the Streets, and co-stars accomplished actress DONNA REED, most renowned for her popular roles in It's a Wonderful Life and From Here to Eternity.
This is the story of one man's journey in search of his estranged father and one woman's attempt to discover the truth behind the disappearance of her husband, both of whom were possibly the victims of an Apache massacre. But the Arizona desert is a harsh, merciless and unforgiving landscape filled with deadly secrets and few survivors.

At first Howard seems hospitable but Widmark soon learns (and remembers) that Howard is a Nazi avoiding war-crime charges in the US. And he is even taking advantage of the natives.
Soon Widmark and Greer are on the run thru the jungle with Howard and his goons on their heels. This does bare some resemblance to TMDG but only by coincidence. There are some cool moments in this film, such as Widmark firing a bullet with a hammer and the scene where his is creeping all over Howard's plantation is quite tense.
Greer was also surprisingly attractive. I'm not really into 50's fashion but she had a nice body and ass. She was also quite tough. She didn't moan and whine either, which made her character cooler and unlike most other female characters of the time.
If you can catch this movie I reckon that you should watch it because it is quite enjoyable. And it is only slightly similar to The Most Dangerous Game.

When a suburban teacher and father (James Mason) is prescribed cortisone for a painful, possibly fatal affliction, he grows dangerously addicted to the experimental drug. This Eisenhower-era throat-grabber, shot in expressive CinemaScope, is an excoriating take on the nuclear family.
