US Airways flight 1549 was a schedule flight from LaGuardia Airport, New York to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte, North Carolina operated by an Airbus A320-214 registered as N106US. On january 15, 2009, climbing at 2,818 feet, the Airbus strock a flock of Canada geese about 4,5 miles northwest of LaGuardia and northeast of George Washington Bridge at 3:27:11 p.m. Just after the strock the plane lost thrust in both CFM-56-5B4/P turbofan engines, 57-year-old captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger took the control of the falling aircraft while the 49-year-old first officer Jeffrey Skiles worked the checklist for engine restart, the engines suffered serious damaged and shut down completely despite crew's several attempts to restart them so, they were forced to make a ditching ...

How the Miracle on the Hudson Unfolded

'Miracle on the Hudson' Survivors Reunite To Relive The Crash 7 Years Later
7 years after Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger splash-landed a plane on the Hudson River, his grateful passengers have reunited. 35 passengers from US Airways Flight 1549 traveled to the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the aircraft now lives. "I heard a loud boom," passenger Ben Bostic recalled. Mark Hood and Denise Lockie were sitting next to each other, "That's when I leaned over and grabbed Denise's hand," Hood said, "and I knew we were going to die." #InsideEdition

US Airways Flight 1549...
US Airways Flight 1549 was a regularly scheduled US Airways flight from New York City (LaGuardia Airport), to Charlotte and Seattle, in the United States. On January 15, 2009, the Airbus A320 serving the flight struck a flock of birds shortly after take-off from LaGuardia, losing all engine power. Given their position in relation to the available airports and their low altitude, pilots Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles decided to glide the plane to ditching in the Hudson River off Midtown Manhattan. All 155 people on board were rescued by nearby boats, with only a few serious injuries. The time from the bird encounter to the ditching was less than four minutes.

The plane only continued ascending during 19 seconds and after started a glade descent accelerating to 390 km/h (210 knots), captain Sullenberger sent a mayday call to LaGuardia answered "unable" and "We can't do it ... We're gonna be in the Hudson" before losing radar contact. In the descent, the aircraft passed less than 270 m above the GWB, the last words were "Brace for impact" through the speaker system. At 3:31 p.m the A320 made an unpowered ditching at 230 km/h (125 knots) into the middle of the North river section, moments after, the evacuation started with various passengers with panic.
Finally, all 155 people on board were rescued by nearby boats, ferrys and the Coast Guard with a air temperature of (-7°C). There were few passenger and a flight attendant with serious injures and the crew were awarded the Master's Medal of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators due to their heroic achievement.

On a blustery cold January day in 2009, Inside Edition staff in New York were shocked to see a passenger airplane flying low outside the newsroom windows and eventually land in the Hudson River by hero U.S. Airways pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger. Inside Edition camera crews raced to the scene and saw the plane floating in the water. Incredibly, each passenger was brought out safety.

New York--The Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board released Coast Guard footage today of the U.S. Airways passenger plane as it conducted an emergency landing into the Hudson River Jan. 15, 2009.
The Coast Guard is conducting a safety zone around the plane, which is now located at Battery Park City, N.Y., while a commercial salvage team is working to remove the plane from the water.
The Coast Guard, New York Police and Fire Departments, New York Waterways and Circle Line ferry rescue teams launched a multi-asset response yesterday when the plane ditched onto the Hudson River, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Upon initial notification, Coast Guard Sector New York launched a fleet of small rescue boats and the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Ridley was diverted to the scene. The Coast Guard Cutter Katherine Walker also arrived on scene to assist in the search and rescue efforts and enforcement of the safety zones.
Three Coast Guard helicopters from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and one from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., worked closely with New York City Police air assets to provide aerial support.
The video was captured by Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service. The purpose of a VTS is to provide active monitoring and navigational advice for vessels in particularly confined and busy waterways. There are two main types of VTS, surveillance and non-surveillance. Surveillance systems consist of one or more land-based sensors (including radar, Automated Identification Systems and closed circuit television sites), which output their signals to a central location where operators monitor and manage vessel traffic movement. Non-surveillance systems consist of one or more reporting points at which ships are required to report their identity, course, speed, and other data to the monitoring authority.
The Coast Guard operates 12 Vessel Traffic Centers (VTC): Prince William Sound, Puget Sound, Valdez, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Houston-Galveston, Berwick Bay, Louisville, Saint Mary's River, Port Arthur, Tampa, and New York.
