USS Agile (AM-421/MSO-421) was an Agile-classminesweeper acquired by the U.S. Navy for the dangerous task of removing mines from minefields laid in the water to prevent ships from passing.
Agile was laid down on 22 February 1954 at Stamford, Connecticut, by the Luders Marine Construction Co. as AM-421; redesignated MSO-421 on 7 February 1955; launched on 19 November 1955; sponsored by Mrs. Alice Donohue; and commissioned at the New York Naval Shipyard on 21 June 1956, Lt. Herbert D. Mills, Jr., in command.
Initial training period
The non-magnetic ocean minesweeper completed fitting out at New York and then sailed on 13 July for her home port, Charleston, South Carolina. She remained there for about two weeks before getting underway on 31 July for her shakedown training. Agile operated out of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, between 8 August and 6 September and returned to Charleston on the 10th of the latter month. Type training and post-shakedown availability at the Charleston Naval Shipyard followed. The beginning of 1957 found her still at Charleston, but preparing to embark upon her first deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.
USS Agile (AMc-111) was an Agile-class coastal minesweeper acquired by the United States Navy for the dangerous task of removing mines from minefields laid in the water to prevent ships from passing.
Agile -- a wooden-hulled coastal minesweeper—was purchased by the Navy from Mr. John Breskovich of Tacoma, Washington, on 10 April 1941 while she was still under construction at the Petersen Shipbuilding Co. in Tacoma, Washington; delivered to the Navy on 26 November 1941; and placed in service on 12 December 1941, Lt. (jg-) John G. Turbitt, USNR, in charge.
World War II service
Agile reported for duty with the 13th Naval District Inshore Patrol on 23 December. Based at the Naval Station, Seattle, Washington, she patrolled the waters of Puget Sound until April 1942 when she entered the yard for repairs and alterations. Agile completed repairs and returned to duty soon thereafter.
Agile (1902–after 1912) was an AmericanThoroughbred racehorse that was the winner of the 1905 Kentucky Derby. Agile won the Sapphire Stakes as a two-year-old and the Phoenix Stakes as a three-year-old.
Agile won the Kentucky Derby against two other competitors, Ram's Horn and Layson, in one of the smallest racing fields since Azra won in 1892.
Following the death of Capt. Samuel S. Brown, his son Frank bought Agile for $5,700 in the July 1906 dispersal sale of the entire racing stable. The last record of Agile racing was in a November 1907 claiming race at the Aqueduct race track in New York, where he finished dead last.
Agile sired three registered Thoroughbred offspring, the fillies Lady Eloise (1913), Chancy M (1915) and Katie Strand (1913) out of Texas bred mares. Lady Eloise is the third dam of American Quarter Horse Champion, Woven Web, who was also a sibling of Assault.
In 1912, Agile was owned by T. Polk of San Antonio and was used as a carriage horse by the family.
Agile began rapping in early high school, and after a talent show win, he knew music was his passion. One talent show turned into many and the wins spread citywide. Born with a West Indian hustle, he wanted to capitalize on his newfound fame and JLJ Productions (a DJ crew he started with his friends) was born.
While DJing independently and with his crew, by the end of high school, Agile began playing gigs with popular college/commercial radio stations across the city and soon fell in love with the element of production. He has since done production work with the likes of Nas,Kardinal Offishall,Dwele, Jully Black,Glenn Lewis,Ivana Santilli, and Frank n Dank.
In 2009, Agile released the mixtape Toronto Love Jay, which was dedicated to the late producer J Dilla. It won the award for Mixtape of the Year at the 2009 Stylus DJ Awards.
The Château d'Ussé is located in the commune of Rigny-Ussé in the Indre-et-Loiredépartement, in France. The stronghold at the edge of the Chinon forest overlooking the Indre Valley was first fortified in the eleventh century by the Norman seigneur of Ussé, Gueldin de Saumur, who surrounded the fort with a palisade on a high terrace. The site passed to the Comte de Blois, who rebuilt in stone.
In the fifteenth century, the ruined castle of Ussé was purchased by Jean V de Bueil, a captain-general of Charles VII who became seigneur of Ussé in 1431 and began rebuilding it in the 1440s; his son Antoine de Bueil married in 1462 Jeanne de Valois, the biological daughter of Charles VII and Agnès Sorel, who brought as dowry 40000 golden écus. Antoine was heavily in debt and in 1455, sold the château to Jacques d’Espinay, son of a chamberlain to the Duke of Brittany and himself chamberlain to the king; Espinay built the chapel, completed by his son Charles in 1612, in which the Flamboyant Gothic style is mixed with new Renaissance motifs, and began the process of rebuilding the fifteenth-century château that resulted in the sixteenth-seventeenth century aspect of the structure to be seen today.
