Turntable Kitchen is a San Francisco-based daily Internet publication and independent record label devoted to music criticism, cooking and food photography. In part, the site has become known for their "Musical Pairings" which consist of recommending music to listen to while enjoying specific recipes. The site was founded by husband and wife duo Kasey and Matthew Hickey in 2010. The focus of the Musical Pairings is on indie rock. However, the range of musical genres covered extends to pop, r&b, hip hop, folk, jazz, World music, and various forms of electronic dance music. They have previously been selected by Saveur Magazine as a "Site We Love".
In 2011, Turntable Kitchen launched a monthly subscription service called the Pairings Box. Each shipment of the Pairings Box includes a vinyl record, a collection of three recipes, spices and other dry ingredients used in preparing the recipes, and a "digital mixtape" of new music. The Pairings Box has released exclusive debut singles by indie artists including GEMS, IYES, Cathedrals, Salt Cathedral, and BASECAMP. The Pairings Box has also featured exclusive releases by artists and bands including Mikal Cronin, MΓΈ, Typhoon, Local Natives, and POP ETC. Turntable Kitchen has been featured in UrbanDaddy, Real Simple, and GOOD Magazine.
The phonograph is a device invented in 1877 for the mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. In its later forms it is also called a gramophone (as a trademark since 1887, as a generic name since c. 1900). The sound vibration waveforms are recorded as corresponding physical deviations of a spiral groove engraved, etched, incised, or impressed into the surface of a rotating cylinder or disc, called a "record". To recreate the sound, the surface is similarly rotated while a playback stylus traces the groove and is therefore vibrated by it, very faintly reproducing the recorded sound. In early acoustic phonographs, the stylus vibrated a diaphragm which produced sound waves which were coupled to the open air through a flaring horn, or directly to the listener's ears through stethoscope-type earphones. In later electric phonographs (also known as record players (since 1940s) or, most recently, turntables), the motions of the stylus are converted into an analogous electrical signal by a transducer called a pickup or cartridge, electronically amplified, then converted back into sound by a loudspeaker.
3D is the fourth studio album by American girl group TLC. It was released by Arista Records on November 12, 2002, in the United States, seven months after the death of TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, and at number four on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, selling 143,000 copies sold in its first week of release and was met with positive reviews. The album nearly sold two million in the United States alone. 3D earned TLC two Grammy Award nominations, and the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 2002. 3D produced 4 singles. The only three singles to chart were "Girl Talk", peaking at 3 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; "Hands Up", which peaked at number 7 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart; and "Damaged", which managed to peak at 19 on the US Mainstream Top 40.
Background information
During and after the release of FanMail, Lopes made it known to the press on multiple occasions that she felt that she was unable to fully express herself working with TLC and Austin. Her contributions to the songs had been reduced to periodic eight-bar raps, and studio session singers such as Debra Killings often took her place on the background vocals for the group's songs. In its November 28, 1999 issue, Entertainment Weekly ran a letter from Lopes that challenged her group mates to record solo albums and let the fans judge which of the three was the most talented:
A car turntable or driveway turntable is a rotating platform designed for use by a car; they can be motorized or manually rotated and are usually installed in a driveway or in a garage floor. They rotate a motor vehicle to facilitate its easier or safer egress. Sometimes a local zoning prohibition of vehicles backing onto busy roadways prompts the installation of car turntables.
The car turntable has existed nearly as long as the mass-produced automotive. Oldsmobile was the first mass production automobile built on assembly lines in 1902. Henry Ford greatly expanded his production line manufacture with affordable automobiles beginning in 1913, most notably with his Ford Model T. Henry Fordβs Dearborn, MichiganFair Lane Estate garage (Estate construction began in 1914 and was completed in 1916) included an automobile turntable.
The Custard Factory is an independent shopping destination and creative and digital business workspace location in Digbeth Birmingham, England (grid referenceSP078864).
Located on the site of what was the Bird's Custard factory in the industrial district of Digbeth, it is now home to a thriving working community of creative & digital businesses, independent shops and cafes and bars. They include hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses and some larger ones like Asos. The project was set up by Bennie Gray in 1992 and substantially expanded by his son Lucan Gray, who owns and runs the project.
Development
The Custard Factory complex is set in fifteen acres (60,000Β mΒ²) of factory buildings, originally constructed by Sir Alfred Frederick Bird (1849β1922), the son of Alfred Bird (1811β1878), the inventor of egg-free instant custard. The architectural firm commissioned to design the building was Hamblins. The architect may have been Augustus William Brenchley Macer-Wright who married Ellen Kate Hamblin, known as Jenny, who was the daughter of the man behind the Architect Firm's name. There is no positive evidence in Birmingham City Archive. At one time, a thousand people worked there.
Kitchen οΌγγγγ³οΌis a novel written by Japanese author Banana Yoshimoto (εζ¬γ°γͺγͺοΌin 1988 and translated into English in 1993 by Megan Backus.
Although one may notice a certain Western influence in Yoshimoto's style, Kitchen is still critically recognized as an example of contemporary Japanese literature; The Independent, The Times and The New Yorker have all reviewed the novel favorably.
Most editions also include a novella entitled Moonlight Shadow, which is also a tragedy dealing with loss and love.
There have been two films made of the story, a Japanese TV movie in 1989 and a more widely released version produced in Hong Kong by Yim Ho in 1997.
Plot
In Kitchen, a young Japanese woman named Mikage Sakurai struggles to overcome the death of her grandmother. She gradually grows close to one of her grandmother's friends, Yuichi, from a flower shop and ends up staying with him and his transgender mother, Eriko.
From Mikage's love of kitchens to her job as a culinary teacher's assistant to the multiple scenes in which food is merely present, Kitchen is a short window into the life of a young Japanese woman and her discoveries about food and love amongst a background of tragedy.

How the Cylinder Phonograph Works
The wax cylinder was the first real commercial sound reproducer. Physicist and collector Bob Lillquist shows us an early wax cylinder machine developed by Thomas Edison (the 2 minute long cylinders with sapphire stylus). He shows us insides of the machine and gives us a basic tour of the cylinder phonograph. In our other videos see the later generation machines and more detail on wax cylinder creation.
