A tumulus (plural tumuli) is a mound of earth and stones raised over a grave or graves. Tumuli also are known as barrows, burial mounds, or kurgans, and may be found throughout much of the world. A cairn, which is a mound of stones built for various purposes, might also originally have been a tumulus.
Tumuli are often categorized according to their external apparent shape. In this respect, a long barrow is a long tumulus, usually constructed on top of several burials, such as passage graves. A round barrow is a round tumulus, also commonly constructed on top of burials. The internal structure and architecture of both long and round barrows has a broad range, the categorization only refers to the external apparent shape.
The word tumulus is Latin for 'mound' or 'small hill', which is derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *teuh2- with extended zero grade *tum-, 'to bulge, swell' also found in tumor, thumb, thigh, and thousand.
Tumulus is progressivefolk metal band from Yaroslavl, Russia. They were formed from the ashes of cult doom metal/viking metal band Scald, after the death of Scald's frontman Agyl. From the beginning, Tumulus moved away from Scald's doom metal roots and played folk metal, combining metal music with traditional Russian folk and incorporated instruments as flute, tambourine and balalaika.

What is a tumulus grave?
⭐️ Tumulus Tombs
Did you know, it was the Phrygians and Lydians who commonly used tumulus type graves in Anatolia?
The tumulus burial tradition actually comes from the Phrygians. The tombs of Phrygians are made with wooden burial chambers, pebbles and soil layers.
In Lydian tumulus graves, the rooms are carved into the bedrock. Cut stone blocks are used instead of wooden walls.
In Bintepeler, the royal necropolis located outside of Sardis, the capital of the Lydians, there are hundreds of tumulus tombs belonging to the rich dating between the 7th and 4th centuries BC.

Tumulus .The Tomb of Athenian Soldiers| Marathon
https://yougoculture.com/
The Athenians did everything in their power to ensure that their victory in Marathon along with the values it stood for would be remembered forever; judging by the monuments still standing for the present-day visitor to admire, their wish for eternal posthumous fame was indeed granted.
Apart from the impressive memorial column erected at the site, an equally striking structure was created to receive the ashes of the 192 Athenian warriors who had died in battle. At almost 9 metres tall and with a diameter of 50 metres, the tumulus, locally known as the Soros (Greek for 'pile'), is the largest and probably the most imposing of the monuments in the plain of Marathon.
