Trophy wife is an informal term for a wife, usually young and attractive, who is regarded as a status symbol for the husband, who is often an older and wealthy "sugar daddy". The term trophy husband is the male equivalent.
Referring to a spouse as a trophy wife usually reflects negatively on the character or personality of the husband and has a connotation of narcissism and desire to impress others, and that the husband would not be able to attract the sexual interest of the attractive woman but for his wealth or position. It can also be used to imply that the trophy wife in question has little personal merit besides her physical attractiveness, does very little of substance beyond remaining attractive, requires substantial expense for maintaining her appearance and is in some ways synonymous with the term "gold digger".
History
The term's etymological origins are disputed. One claim is that trophy wife originally appeared in a 1950 issue of The Economist newspaper, referring to the historical practice of warriors capturing the most beautiful women during battle to bring home as wives.William Safire claimed that the term trophy wife was coined by Julie Connelly, a senior editor of Fortune magazine, in a cover story in the issue of August 28, 1989 and immediately entered common usage. Many sources claim the term was coined earlier (for example, the Online Etymology Dictionary cites 1984) but easy online access to William Safire's article about the term has led many (such as Oxford English Dictionary) to believe that August 28, 1989 was its first use. However, the idiom is found in passing in a quote in a 1965 publication, apparently referring to the wife of Bernie Madoff.
Trophy Wife were a band from Oxford, England, consisting of Jody Prewett (vocals, guitar, bass), Ben Rimmer (keyboards, sampler) and Kit Monteith (drums, percussion, sampler). The band disbanded after playing their last show at the O2 Academy, Oxford, on 14 June 2013.

Founding
The three were all formerly members of fellow Oxford band Jonquil. They describe their sound on their Facebook page as "pentatonic pop". When asked in a 2010 interview with UK music blog There Goes the Fear about the origin of their name, they responded, "We’ve had the name for a while and it seemed to suit the sounds we started making. To us, it’s a name that is both glamorous and glitzy yet somehow inherently dark. In many ways this is also how we see our music; Kit had heaps of old manual photographs of these desolate, windswept English locations and we pasted the words ‘Trophy Wife’ in big pink letters onto them and we really liked the relationship between the two."
Releases
After releasing their acclaimed debut single "Microlite" on 8 November 2010 on Moshi Moshi Records, the band played their first live shows, which included a string of successful support slots with the likes of Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club. The follow-up double A-side single to "Microlite" was "The Quiet Earth" / "White Horses", released on 28 February 2011.

As Sammy leaves the house, not looking at the commotion Lani is causing outside his car, he instructs his driver to ignore Lani’s pleas and carry on driving. The driver accidentally bumps into Lani, causing her miscarriage.
Trophy Wife is an American punk and post-hardcore band based in Philadelphia. Originally founded in Washington, D.C. in 2009, members include Diane Foglizzo on guitar and Katy Otto on drums, with both Foglizzo and Otto sharing vocal duties. They tour frequently, and many of their shows double as benefits for non-profit organizations.
The band released its first full album, Patience Fury, in 2010. Their second album, Sing What Scares You, was released in 2012 to positive reviews, with the Washington City Paper stating "Their pummeling, cathartic, holler-along songs are full of time changes, rhythmically staggered harmonies, and other moving parts set off by subtle cues." Their third album, All the Sides, was released on December 9, 2014.

Before co-founding the band in 2009, members Katy Otto and Diane Foglizzo were both involved in the punk music scene of Washington, D.C. Otto was a co-founder of Exotic Fever Records, and drummed in a number of underground rock bands. Diane Foglizzo had become interested in punk while living in Washington, D.C. and was involved with programs such as Girls Rock!
Trophy Wife is an American television sitcom that aired during the 2013–14 television season on ABC. The series was co-created and executive produced by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins for ABC Studios. The series was green-lit by ABC for a series order pick up on May 10, 2013.Trophy Wife premiered on September 24, 2013.
On May 8, 2014, ABC canceled Trophy Wife after one season. The final episode aired the following week.
Premise
The series revolved around Kate (Malin Åkerman), a young, attractive, blonde party girl, who marries a professional middle aged lawyer named Pete (Bradley Whitford). With the marriage comes Pete's two ex-wives, the stern perfectionist doctor, Diane (Marcia Gay Harden) and the flaky, flamboyant new age Jackie (Michaela Watkins), as well as Pete's three children: overachieving good girl Hillary (Bailee Madison), slacker Warren (Ryan Lee), and adopted Asian-American son Bert (Albert Tsai). The series explores the marriage between Kate and Pete, along with the modern family dynamics between them, the ex-wives, and their respective children.
