Dr. Anthony "Tony" Gates is a fictional character on the television series ER. He is portrayed by John Stamos. Stamos was originally going to be introduced on ER in Season 12 as Dr. Tom Beck, an unorthodox new ER Chief who would alternately clash with and impress the ER regulars. Because Stamos was not available for an extended stint on the show at that time, his character was retro-fitted as a paramedic who would be introduced in that field for a few Season 12 appearances before becoming a series regular for Season 13.
Paramedic appearances
In Gates's first appearance in the series, his paramedic was fired at while trying to assist a young kidnapping victim. Gates transported the girl to County General following the arrest of her kidnapper. While assisting in the treatment of the girl, Gates met Dr. Neela Rasgotra. In the beginning, Neela seems irritated by Gates, but the two soon developed a friendship. Gates later revealed to Neela that he too is a medical student who is spending time with the paramedics until he graduates. In the episode, "Two Ships," when two airplanes collided and crashed in downtown Chicago, Gates and Neela again worked together, this time out in the field. Gates was badly injured when a burning building (which he had run into to save a woman) exploded. Neela was forced to perform risky liver surgery on him in the field. Gates eventually recovered.

Line of Duty fans 'work out' DC Chloe Bishop is Tony Gates' daughter
It's only two episodes in, but fans are already gripped by the sixth series of Line of Duty. In particular, viewers are enjoying the references to the very first season in 2012 - and some reckon that new AC-12 recruit DC Chloe Bishop could also have a big connection to DI Steve Arnott. Fans are speculating that Chloe could be Tony Gates' daughter, recalling that he had two daughters with his wife Jools - Natalie and, coincidentally, Chloe. Tony, played by Shalom Brune-Franklin, died in the explosive finale of the first series after becoming involved with the organised crime unit (OCG) as a result of his affair with Jackie Laverty. After realising his career was over, he had asked Steve to say that he was killed in the line of duty and killed himself by walking in front of a lorry. As...

I was born in a broken down wagonette, On a far distant Queensland cattle route, And my shawl was a dusty old saddle cloth, I'm a dinki-di Aussie no doubt! I was raised on the milk of a kangaroo, And my dummy was a rum bottle cork, And my diet was damper and bully beef, I'm a dinki-di Aussie called Stork! Play now. [Instrumental] Oh that’s the sound we all like Way down here. Now I went to the class of a two-up school', Where a cockatoo watched for the law, And my teacher was a bare knuckle pugilist, I'm a dinki-di Aussie for sure! Now I work in the country for many months, And some people say that I'm queer, With a fat cheque I head for the nearest town, And I bust it on horses and beer. hey! [Instrumental] I'm allergic to red tape and relations, No in-laws can yap down my ear, Oh, I'm often rough, rowdy and I drink a bit, I'm the cause of that pub with no beer. Then finally I go to that other land, A preacher once told me "It's true", Oh, he said "The reception would be very warm, To dinki-di Aussies like you." ‘Cause I was born in a broken down wagonette, And my dummy was a rum bottle cork, And my diet was damper and bully beef, I'm a dinki-di Aussie called Stork!
