Born in Bilston, West Midlands, Webster specialised in sporting cartoons. He originally worked in a railway booking office and taught himself to draw. In 1904 he won a newspaper cartoon contest, and this started off his career in cartooning. He started out at the Sports Argus in Birmingham, then later the Evening News, before joining the Daily Mail in 1919. He specialised in cartoons of horseracing, cricket and golf, and stayed at the Mail for over twenty years. In his capacity as a sports cartoonist, he became friends and golf partner with Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman, and one account says it was a combination of clothing worn by Webster that inspired Chapman to add white sleeves to Arsenal's red shirts.
Webster also worked on caricaturising politicians, so much so that on the night of the 1929 general election, a selection of his cartoons was shown in public in London's Trafalgar Square. He left the Daily Mail in 1940, but continued to draw for other newspapers, and his own range of annuals, until 1960. He died in 1962, aged 76.
Webster joined the Grafton Branch of the Australian Labor Party in 1971 and joined the Dee Why branch in 1976, becoming President from 1977-1978. He was pre-selected as Labor Party candidate for the NSW State seat of Wakehurst in 1978. The 1978 election saw a huge swing towards the Labor Party in NSW and was known as the 'Wranslide', in reference to the state leader, Neville Wran. Webster was elected on 7 October 1978, becoming the first Labor member of what was a traditionally safe Liberal seat, defeating the sitting Liberal member Allan Viney.
Thomas Ronald "Hawkeye" Webster (born October 4, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former coach. He was born to Clara Lukowicz (née Webster). He is one of 8 siblings.
After retiring as a player Webster has been the coach for a number of teams at various levels of hockey, including the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings in the NHL.
While coaching the Kings in a game against Detroit on November 16 1991, Webster became upset at what he felt was a blown call by referee Kerry Fraser. The Kings were assessed an extra penalty, and Webster took a stick and threw it on the ice, hitting one of Fraser's skates. Webster was suspended for 12 games.
