Thomas "Tom" Tryon (January 14, 1926–September 4, 1991) was an American film and television actor, best known for playing the title role in the film The Cardinal (1963) and the Walt Disney television character Texas John Slaughter (1958–1961). He later turned to the writing of prose fiction and screenplays, and wrote several science fiction, horror and mysterynovels.
Early life and education
Thomas Tryon was born on January 14, 1926, in Hartford, Connecticut, as the son of Arthur Lane Tryon, a clothier and owner of Stackpole, Moore & Tryon. (He is often erroneously identified as the son of silent screen actor Glenn Tryon.)
He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific from 1943–1946 during and after World War II. Upon return from the U.S. Navy he attended and graduated from Yale.
"They're not only getting the Calaveras County sales tax, we're paying to improve their roads for them,"
"We're just viewed as a bedroom community to service Tuolumne and Amador counties, and it does hurt,"
"The reality is, we can't sustain ourselves with property tax dollars because the state is taking so much money away from counties,"
"Maybe they'll go to Lowe's instead of the Home Depot in Stockton, but either way, they're not shopping in Calaveras County,"
"If local residents could shop locally they would do less driving,"
"I am strongly in favor of agriculture, ... I view this as a watershed moment in that we can determine the future of ag and, in some ways, development."

THE OTHER Original Theatrical Trailer (Eureka Classic)
A genuinely chilling psychological horror from director Robert Mulligan (To Kill a Mockingbird), The Other provides enough gruesome twists and turns to keep you guessing right up until its shocking finale.
Mysterious accidents befall a family on a farm in depression-era Connecticut resulting in the death of a beloved father and a cherished twin brother. But when nine-year-old Holland begins to see – and speak to – his twin, the remaining family members can only wait in terrified anticipation for more tragedies to occur... as it slowly dawns on them that the accidents may not be accidental after all.

TCM Premiere of The Other (1972)
The introduction and conclusion to the Turner Classic Movies premiere of "The Other" (1972) which aired on October 29, 2010 at 2:00 AM in the morning. TCM host Robert Osborne talks about the film's adaptation to the screen from the novel by former actor Thomas Tryon, as well as the direction by veteran filmmaker Robert Mulligan and the portrayals of the twins Niles and Holland by actors Chris and Marty Udvarnoky.
This "premiere" was noted for its strange timing because Chris Udvarnoky had passed away on October 25 -- just four days earlier. Since news of his death had not reached the mainstream media, however, his death apparently did not snag the attention of TCM and, therefore, is not mentioned by Osborne at any time during this premiere.

The Glory Guys is a 1965 American film based on the novel The Dice of God by Hoffman Birney. Filmed by Levy-Gardner-Laven and released by United Artists, it stars Tom Tryon, Harve Presnell, Senta Berger, James Caan, and Michael Anderson, Jr. The film's screenplay was written by Sam Peckinpah long before the 1965 film was made. The director was Arnold Laven. Riz Ortolani composed the score and the title song. Though a fictionalized Western based on George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, the film is almost a generic war story covering the enlistment, training, and operational deployment of a group of recruits that could take place in any time period. The large-scale film was made in Durango, Mexico, with large numbers of mounted extras and the final battle scene choreographed on 20,000 acres (81 km2) of land. The titles were drawn by Joseph Mugnaini for Format Productions. Cover versions of the title song were done by Al Caiola and sung by Frankie Laine.
