Tom O'Toole (born 30 January 1952) is an Australian inspirational speaker, author and businessman in the bakery industry.
In 1969, at the age of seventeen Tom O’Toole entered the bakers apprentice program and has been involved in the bakery business ever since. In 1974 Tom O’Toole started his career as a bakery business owner by purchasing his first shop in Beechworth, Victoria. In 1977, he sold the business and moved to Augusta in Western Australia, where Tom O’Toole made his mark as a leading country baker. In 1984 Tom O’Toole returned to Beechworth, Victoria, and purchased the badly run-down bakery again, this time including an attached building for expansion, and has been in business ever since.
The Beechworth Bakery retail outlets created by Tom O’Toole today serve over 1 million customers with a net intake of more than 12 million dollars annually. There are now five other bakeries located across Victoria and New South Wales, Australia in the towns of - Echuca, Albury, Healesville, Bendigo and Ballarat.
Thomas "Tom" O'Toole was an American basketball player best known for his collegiate career at Boston College. A left-handed guard, O'Toole scored 703 points in his three-year varsity career between 1949–50 and 1951–52. Despite averaging 10.3 points per game for his career, which in the early 1950s was an impressive number, he was known more for his tenacious play and ability to distribute the basketball to his teammates. He is the NCAA's second ever officially recognized season assists leader, and his 7.89 assists per game as a senior topped the nation. O'Toole would also become the last assists champion recognized for 31 years until the NCAA began keeping track again in 1983–84.
In his final game as a Boston College Eagle, O'Toole scored 23 points as his team upset highly-favored Holy Cross, 64–61. The win capped a 22–5 season, one of the school's best ever, as he exited the court to a standing ovation.
After college, O'Toole forwent any professional basketball aspirations and decided to coach instead, including high school. In 1977 he was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame.
Here, with their kinsmen the O'Byrne family, they were noted for their tough resistance to English domination for four centuries; including exercising great influence over the foundation of the Confederation of Kilkenny in 1642 in what had become Confederate Ireland.
At the start of the 16th century, there were five great houses, all, owing allegiance to "The O'Toole of Powerscourt" as the recognized chief:
O'Toole of Castleruddery, residing in Glen Imaile.
O'Toole of O'Toole's Castle, Ballymacledy, (now Upper Talbotstown), Glen Imaile.
