Dublin Cathedral Ireland - Matthew Lewis
Dublin Cathedral, Ireland: The Princes in the Tower: The New Evidence (Channel 4, Brinkworth Productions). Historian Matthew Lewis introduces Rob Rinder to the important and overlooked figure of Richard III's heir, John de la Pole, Earl of Lincoln, and his role in the coronation of Edward V, the elder Prince in the Tower. Edward was crowned in Dublin Cathedral on Sunday 27th May 1487. He was 16. Following Henry VII's repeal of Titulus Regius in January 1486, Edward's claim now superseded that of his cousin, Lincoln (age 27). Twelve-year old Edward, Earl of Warwick, held by King Henry in the Tower of London, was barred from the throne by attainder.

The fate of Edward V and his brother remains a subject of historical debate. They were last seen in public in June 1483. Richard III, who had become king by then, was accused by many of being responsible for their disappearance. The widely accepted theory is that the two young princes were likely murdered, with the most popular belief being that Richard III ordered their deaths. Their alleged remains were discovered in the Tower of London in 1674.
It’s important to note that the events surrounding Edward V and his brother are subject to historical interpretation, and the truth may never be definitively known. The disappearance of the Princes in the Tower remains one of the enduring mysteries of English history. #history #historymemes #edwardiv #edwardv #richardiii #england #reels

This history documentary, will discover how Bishop Robert Stillington was the key to Richard III's legacy. Titulus Regius ("royal title" in Latin) is a statute of the Parliament of England issued in 1484 in the middle ages by which the title of King of England was given to Richard III. The act ratified the declaration of the Lords and the members of the House of Commons a year earlier that the marriage of Edward IV of England to Elizabeth Woodville had been invalid and so their children, including Edward, Richard and Elizabeth, were illegitimate and thus debarred from the throne.
In this video, we'll be discussing the key role Bishop Robert Stillington played in helping to pave the way for King Richard III to take the throne. Bishop Robert Stillington was a key figure in the life of King Richard III, and his titulus regius – or royal title – is evidence of this. Bishop Robert Stillington helped to create the legal case that helped to legitimize King Richard III's claim to the throne.
Richard III had been proclaimed the rightful king. Since the Lords and the Commons had not been officially convened as a parliament, doubts had arisen as to its validity and so when Parliament convened, it enacted the declaration as a law. After the overthrow of Richard III, the Act was repealed, which had the effect of reinstating the legitimacy of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville's children.
