Vernon Harold Timothy Spencer (July 13, 1908 – April 26, 1974) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Spencer is best known for founding the popular American Cowboy singing group the Sons of the Pioneers in 1933 along with Bob Nolan and Roy Rogers.
Biography
Vernon Harold Timothy Spencer was born to Edgar and Laura Alice Spencer on July 13, 1908 in Webb City, Missouri. The family moved to New Mexico when Tim was five years old, one of eight boys and two girls. The family later moved to Picher, Oklahoma two years later. In 1931, Tim left Oklahoma for Los Angeles and began working at Safeway.
Career
Spencer appeared with the Sons of the Pioneers in multiple films, and wrote many of the songs they performed. He retired from the Sons of the Pioneers in 1949, but continued managing them until 1952, and recorded with them until 1957 for RCA Victor. After leaving the group, Spencer organized a gospel music publishing company called Manna [Gaviota] Music . The company secured the rights to How Great Thou Art, which provided a solid business footing.
Spencer was drafted by the Chicago Blitz of the United States Football League in 1983 after a college football career at Ohio State where he ran for 1371 yards in his senior season. He closed out his career with 3,553 yards rushing and still ranks third on OSU's all-time rushing list, trailing only Heisman Trophy winners Archie Griffin (5,589) and Eddie George (3,768). Spencer shared the backfield with Kevin Long as the starting running back with Chicago and rushed for 1157 yards on 300 carries with 6 touchdowns in his rookie season.
In 1984, Spencer played for the Arizona Wranglers and rushed for 1212 yards on 227 carries for a 5.3 yards per carry average. He also ran for 17 touchdowns. The following season, he played for the Memphis Showboats and rushed for 789 yards on 198 carries with 3 touchdowns. Spencer finished as the 3rd leading rusher in USFL history.
The Spencer family is a fictional family on the American soap operaGeneral Hospital. The family is created by Douglas Marland and first introduced in 1977 when Bobbie Spencer arrives in Port Charles. Bobbie's brother, Luke arrived a year later in 1978. Supercouple Luke and Laura Spencer are part of this family, known for their romance and many adventures. The Spencer family is characterized as an adventurous bunch, but many in the family have struggled with various types of substance abuse. They are known for their longstanding feud with the Cassadine family. The family is currently represented by: Lulu, Bobbie, Carly, Lucas, Valerie, Michael, Morgan, Josslyn, Cameron, Jake, Aiden, and Rocco. The Spencers are the owners of the Haunted Star yacht, which is a staple establishment in the Port Charles community.

Cullen's Verse:
Looking in the eyes of a broken dream
Another new plan torn at the seams
And I don’t know if it’s all been me
Or someone else pulling at my strings
Living everyday like it’s on repeat
Another played out dead end routine
Stuck in place as the walls close in
Plotting out my escape again
Crawling my way from a prison cell

Back Home - from the musical 'Rising Sun' - Performed by Tim J Spencer - The Songwriters Lounge
'Back Home' is a song that features in my musical 'Rising Sun'. The musical 'Rising Sun' is an all female cast musical set at the end of the Second World War. The song appears in the show sung by the main protagonist Abby, as she tells her young friend Mary, about what she used to do before the war, which was performing as a singer. The song is written for an alto/low mezzo soprano.
But the song wasn't originally written for this purpose, it's a Country Blues song that was conceived as a song to pitch to Country Legend Garth Brooks. But when I was creating Rising Sun, a year after first writing the song, I found it fitted perfectly in place for the moment in the show where it occurs.

Let Me Be Free - Tim J Spencer - The Songwriters Lounge
'Let Me Be Free' is a song I wrote in, 2017, and was written after the devastating loss of a friend who committed suicide. Having had a couple of times in my life where I have been suffering from depression, albeit many years ago, it unlocked memories that I'd locked away for years and hadn't thought about.
As happens in these times I tend to pour my emotions out in song and that is what this is, an explanation of how the depression affected me.
This may be an, understandably, hard video to watch as it deals with a subject that is not talked about enough, so please do leave comments and let's have a discussion, I think that's really important with this song. The lyric could be related to one reflecting on Euthanasia.
It may be one of the most honest songs I've ever written.

(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)
Chorus:
Staring right into the sun
Looking for the ending before it’s begun
I just need a reason to bleed
It feels like my heart’s going numb
Tim’s Verse:
I’m losing my place when I gave it all
It’s Pushing my back up against the wall
When it takes everything to survive
It’s hard enough just to feel alive
Every new scar that I try to hide
I need a way out but I’m out of time
I know there’s something
holding me here at the bottom
(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)
Chorus:
Staring right into the sun
Looking for the ending before it’s begun
I just need a reason to bleed
It feels like my heart’s going numb
Bridge:
The hues quickly change in my eyes
Kaleidoscope visions invade my mind
Leaving perception behind
Going blind now
Turn the lights out
(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)

Lyrics :
Back home, in the bars of Carolina
I used to sing, how I dreamed of seeing the world
Back home, the setting sun in Carolina
Well I wonder if they ever think of me
Back home
Those days I would sing til the morning sunrise
The band would play, the people listened far and near
I left my home back in sleepy Carolina
I saw the world, then one day I ended up here
Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t change the way life wandered
I saw the world, saw my dreams I’ve got no regrets
But now I’m here and I dream of Carolina
And I wonder if I ever should have left
But when I get back to my home in Carolina
I’ll see those friends who I left so long ago
The setting sun back in dreamy Carolina
I wonder if they ever think of me,
One day I will return and they will see
I wonder if they ever think of me
Back home

Lyrics :
Sometimes the world can feel like home
And sometimes you feel you’re on your own
But when you find the world’s too close
Remember those you love the most
And maybe there’s a God after all
Somewhere the sun is shining
Somewhere the air is still
Somewhere there is no dying
And somebody feels no ill
Somewhere the skies are golden
And somewhere the wells are filled
There’s someone to turn to
Cause somebody trusts
And somewhere there’s a heaven still
Living this life you start again
And only your kin you will defend
Not trusting those you have to trust
Or blaming those for all you’ve lost
And hoping that someday this will end
Somewhere the sun is shining
Somewhere the air is still
Somewhere there is no dying
And somebody feels no ill
Somewhere the skies are golden
And somewhere the wells are filled
There’s someone to turn to
Cause somebody trusts
And somewhere there’s a heaven still

Lyrics :
Take me to heaven, let me be free
So tired of fighting, let me be me
The silence of holding on takes all I can be
Lord let me rest now, guide me to thee
All the battles and wars, the fights are done
Never dreamed I'd survive, never thought that I'd won
I have lied, how I lie and wait for the morning risen sun
There can never be a sunrise through this godforsaken storm
So…
Take me to heaven, let me be free
So tired of fighting, let me be me
The silence of holding on takes all I can be
Lord let me rest now, guide me to thee
Every time I believed salvation was near
Any doubts in the mind would whisper their fear
I have tried, how I try, to change the never ending theme
In the moment when you're lost in that shattered broken dream
All of the nights that I've twisted and turned
All of the money I've wasted and burned
All of the scenes that I thought would go better next time
All of the loves I let slip through my hands
I’ve finally realised it’s part of your plan
And I see the sadness that wells in their eyes when they smile.
So…
Take me to heaven, let me be free
So tired of fighting, let me be me
The silence of holding on takes all I can be
Lord let me rest now, guide me to thee
Guide me to thee
Lord let me rest now, guide me to thee

Lyrics:
Sleep Theory - Numb (Reimagined)
Cullen's Verse:
Looking in the eyes of a broken dream
Another new plan torn at the seams
And I don’t know if it’s all been me
Or someone else pulling at my strings
Living everyday like it’s on repeat
Another played out dead end routine
Stuck in place as the walls close in
Plotting out my escape again
Crawling my way from a prison cell
No one can save me but myself
I know there’s something more that I’m missing
(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)
Chorus:
Staring right into the sun
Looking for the ending before it’s begun
I just need a reason to bleed
It feels like my heart’s going numb
Tim’s Verse:
I’m losing my place when I gave it all
It’s Pushing my back up against the wall
When it takes everything to survive
It’s hard enough just to feel alive
Every new scar that I try to hide
I need a way out but I’m out of time
I know there’s something
holding me here at the bottom
(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)
Chorus:
Staring right into the sun
Looking for the ending before it’s begun
I just need a reason to bleed
It feels like my heart’s going numb
Bridge:
The hues quickly change in my eyes
Kaleidoscope visions invade my mind
Leaving perception behind
Going blind now
Turn the lights out
(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)
(I know there’s something more that I’m missing)
(Hoping to find my place…..somewhere)
(I know there’s something holding me here at the bottom)
(Repeat Chorus)

Back in 1997, UZ made it out to Bleachers on Pensacola Beach. Tim Spencer was performing an Acoustic Set of this Classic Tune. I decided to upload the video in Honor of The Legendary Jimmy Buffett.

I wonder if they ever think of me,
One day I will return and they will see
I wonder if they ever think of me
Back home

SOMEWHERE from the musical Rising Sun
Written and sung by Tim J Spencer
Sheet music is available at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20105840
The song 'Somewhere' is one of the songs from my musical 'Rising Sun' by Tim J. Spencer. The song is a 'song of hope' and an anthem for the musical. It's a great audition song for soprano or high mezzo soprano. In this video I explain why it exists and why it is part of the show and I sing my version too. The video is part of my Songwriters Lounge performances.
The musical Rising Sun is for an all female cast of 12 and is set in a Prisoner-Of-War camp for ladies at the end of the 2nd World War. It is a musical in one act and is produced on a one-set staging.

Lyrics :
Sometimes the world can feel like home
And sometimes you feel you’re on your own
But when you find the world’s too close
Remember those you love the most
And maybe there’s a God after all
Somewhere the sun is shining
Somewhere the air is still
Somewhere there is no dying
And somebody feels no ill
Somewhere the skies are golden
And somewhere the wells are filled
There’s someone to turn to
Cause somebody trusts
And somewhere there’s a heaven still
Living this life you start again
And only your kin you will defend
Not trusting those you have to trust
Or blaming those for all you’ve lost
And hoping that someday this will end
Somewhere the sun is shining
Somewhere the air is still
Somewhere there is no dying
And somebody feels no ill
Somewhere the skies are golden
And somewhere the wells are filled
There’s someone to turn to
Cause somebody trusts
And somewhere there’s a heaven still
Somewhere the sun is shining
Somewhere the air is still
Somewhere there is no dying
And somebody feels no ill
Somewhere the skies are golden
And somewhere the wells are filled
There’s someone to turn to
Cause somebody trusts
And somewhere there’s a heaven still

You can download the studio recording of the song for FREE on my patreon page (you don't have to be a patron to do so, link is https://www.patreon.com/posts/let-me-be-free-j-13072251)
