TICKHILL: Doncaster Parish #36 of 43
Next up on the trail around Doncaster sees us take on another civil parish with town status and this one's perhaps the most historic of the lot when it comes to Doncaster's South. This is THE most Southerly parish in the borough, only touching a handful of others within Doncaster and sitting on the border with Rotherham and with Bassetlaw.
It's a decent size too. At 5,228, the population of the place is a lot more than it used to be back around the time when the main stone fortifications of the Castle and the Mill Dam were erected. Through the ages this place has undergone a terrific transformation from a quiet little settlement gifted to the Norman barons of the area by William the Conquerer, to a thriving, bustling small town ideally located between Doncaster, Worksop and Rotherham.

You don't have to travel much around the town to see some of the best stuff either. You can see the Castle and the Mill Dam within a minutes walk of each other, and Rowlands Bridge too, a slab of magnesian limestone used to cross the mill pond. The same limestone was used to build the towering 124 foot high St Mary's Church too, which you simply cannot miss here.
I reckon the standout building in this town though has to be St Leonard's Hospice, built in 1470 and now the Parish Room. It's unmissable with it's Tudor style wooden beams, and it's located a few steps from the other standout feature in the town centre - The Buttercross, or to give it it's actual name, The Market Cross.
Sit back and enjoy the next twenty minutes as I take you around this small town, drenched in history and oozing with beauty as well, in a huge circle. This is TICKHILL.

Well I'll be over you You're out tonight with your new love I'm far far from your mind Trying to get over you love chould take a whole lifetime I can't believe you could want anybody else so no one could take my place At least that's what I keep telling myself as the tears fall down my face Got nine million nine hundred... I'll be over you Got nine million nine hundred...
