Historically a part of Cumberland, Threlkeld formerly had its own railway station on the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway, on the opposite side of the valley, next to the (closed) Threlkeld Quarry, at the foot of Clough Head. Today the railway line is a footpath and cycle track. Three rows of terraced houses, which used to accommodate the quarry workers, stand near the station. The Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum is open nearby and operates the 2ft (610mm)narrow gauge Threlkeld Quarry Railway for tourists to enjoy.
Two pubs are located opposite each other in the village: The Salutation and the Horse and Farrier. There is also a Coffee Shop, a vibrant Village Hall, and a small church, St Mary's, in the village.

Threlkeld village to mining museum
The Threlkeld mining museum and the vintage excavator trust is about a mile walk from the village of Threlkeld following the road. We found a short cut, after crossing the A66 we walked up a lane and found a public right of way that takes us around a couple of fields and across the old disused rail line. Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path Reopens | Walking Old Railways | Lake District
Storm Desmond in December 2015 caused destruction and devastation in the area and, along the old railway path, destroyed two old Victorian bridges and hundreds of metres of trackbed path. The popular path has been mostly closed for the five years since but in December 2020 the reinstatement works have been complete and the track is back open again. Between the National anti-Covid Lockdowns we are enduring currently, I managed a dash up to the Lake District to enjoy the path once again.
As my narration explains, I have been enjoying this area since the late 1970s. This trip was, for me, full of nostalgia, enjoyment and a sense of ‘completion’ as the formal reopening of the path took so long.
I hope you enjoy / enjoyed the story and views along the way. I plan to re-visit this summer, ...

A great time in Keswick but not all went to plan when we get into a pickle with closed footpaths between Keswick and Threlkeld following the Storm Desmond damage in 2015.
The Vlog contains an ebike ride and two hikes starting from Keswick and attempting the closed footpath to Threlkeld in the Lake District, the only one which I can recommend is this one which did go to plan :)

Taking care on the hills:
I’m not a pro, expert or any kind of leader on the mountains. I step out for fun and my own personal enjoyment. What I do is at my own risk. I do not suggest anyone does what I do, the way I do it, where I go or anything else in my videos. I’m always mindful of my own safety and doing what is right with respect to the environment and others on the hills. If you watch my videos, please enjoy them as they are and don’t necessarily assume they are examples of excellent practice. I’m learning along the way too.
As always, every fell-walker goes out on their route taking on responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing, accessing areas that are open to the public or asking for permission as necessary. I totally support the #LeaveNoTrace campaign and encourage everyone to follow that too. So, if you venture out, please respect the environment, be considerate to others along the route, stay safe, wear, carry and use the clothes and equipment that you need for your trek, have ample food and drink for the duration of your trek, navigate carefully and keep within the limitations of your fitness and abilities. Let others know where you plan to go and when you will return.
Stay Safe. Enjoy!

Stay Safe. Enjoy!
