Blue is the colour between violet and green on the optical spectrum of visible light. Human eyes perceive blue when observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometres. Blues with a higher frequency and thus a shorter wavelength gradually look more violet, while those with a lower frequency and a longer wavelength gradually appear more green. Pure blue, in the middle, has a wavelength of 470 nanometres. In painting and traditional colour theory, blue is one of the three primary colours of pigments, along with red and yellow, which can be mixed to form a wide gamut of colours. Red and blue mixed together form violet, blue and yellow together form green. Blue is also a primary colour in the RGB colour model, used to create all the colours on the screen of a television or computer monitor.
The modern English word blue comes from Middle Englishbleu or blewe, from the Old Frenchbleu, a word of Germanic origin, related to the Old High German word blao. The clear sky and the deep sea appear blue because of an optical effect known as Rayleigh scattering. When sunlight passes through the atmosphere, the blue wavelengths are scattered more widely by the oxygen and nitrogen molecules, and more blue comes to our eyes. Rayleigh scattering also explains blue eyes; there is no blue pigment in blue eyes. Distant objects appear more blue because of another optical effect called atmospheric perspective.
Like random early detection (RED), it operates by randomly dropping or marking packet with explicit congestion notification mark before the transmit buffer of the network interface controller overflows. Unlike RED, however, it requires little or no tuning to be performed by the network administrator. A Blue queue maintains a drop/mark probability p, and drops/marks packets with probability p as they enter the queue. Whenever the queue overflows, p is increased by a small constant pd, and whenever the queue is empty, p is decreased by a constant pi< pd.
If the mix of traffic on the interface does not change, p will slowly converge to a value that keeps the queue within its bounds with full link utilization.
The acronym originally stood for Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division. It was changed in 1991 to Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate. Within the various films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as multiple animated and live-action television series, the acronym stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
Amalgam Comics was a publishing imprint shared by DC Comics and Marvel Comics, in which the two comic book publishers merged their characters into new ones (e.g., DC Comics' Batman and Marvel Comics' Wolverine became the Amalgam character Dark Claw). These characters first appeared in a series of twelve comic books which were published in 1996, between the third and fourth issues of the DC vs. Marvelminiseries. A second set of twelve comic books followed one year later.
The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Alternate Universes 2005 designated the Amalgam Universe as Earth-9602. DC Comics has not identified an Amalgam Universe in its Multiverse.
Publication history
On two separate occasions – April 1996 and June 1997 – Marvel and DC co-published issues under the Amalgam Comics imprint. The issues were presented as if the imprint had existed for decades, with stories and editorial comments referring to a fictional history stretching back to the Golden Age of Comics, including retcons and reboots. For example they referred to Secret Crisis of the Infinity Hour (an amalgamation of Marvel's Secret Wars, DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths, Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet, and DC's Zero Hour), which featured the well-known cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths #7, but with Super-Soldier holding his sidekick's body, instead of Superman holding Supergirl. Several issues included fake letter-columns to provide the illusion of background to the stories, with the "fans'" hometowns formed by amalgamating the names of existing cities.
Things is an award-winning task management app for OS X, iOS, and watchOS made by Cultured Code, a software startup based in Stuttgart, Germany. It was the first modern task manager available for Mac when it released to 12,000 people as an alpha in late 2007, and quickly gained popularity. The following summer, when the App Store launched, it was among the first 500 apps available for iPhone. It was then released alongside the iPad in April 2010, and became one of the first apps available for Apple Watch in March 2015.
In December 2013, Cultured Code announced that they had sold one million copies of the software to date, and in December 2014 the company announced that downloads had increased by an additional three million.
Awards
Things has won multiple awards over the years. It first won the MacLife Editors' Choice Award in 2008, and then in 2009 it went on to win the Apple Design Award, the Macworld Editors’ Choice Award, and the Macworld Best of Show Award. In 2012, after the release of Things 2, Apple selected it as Editors’ Choice, named it among the App Store Best of 2012, and inducted it into the App Store Hall of Fame.
The cross symbol was also used on flags from the medieval period, and in modern times also on numerous national flags.
History
Heraldry emerges in the 12th century out of earlier traditions.
The Christian cross is one of the earliest and most widespread heraldic charges, dating back to the field signs used in the First Crusade, and used to distinguish the various noble crusaders from at least the Second Crusade.

Bufferbloat #3 - FIFO, RED, Blue, and Fair Queueing
Dave Täht gave a lecture at the University of Modena describing the problem of Bufferbloat. The cool part of the video is it demonstrates the problems of network queueing - with water!
It starts with why a FIFO algorithm is bad - delay increases dramatically with load - this delay severaly affects DNS, ping, gaming and other short, but high priority/critical packets that affect your perception of network response. Discussion then shifts to drop tail algorithms, and the attempt to use Random Early Drop (RED) and the Blue algorithms. It moves on to the "Fair Queueing" family of algorithms that attempt to separate large ("elephant") flows/sessions from smaller volume ("mice" or "ant") flows.
It's handheld video, the audio's not great, but the information is pure gold. If you want to learn...

“Testing the Effectiveness of AQMs at Improving Network Performance”
As use of the Internet and the number of real-time applications that depend on it increases, network performance statistics such as link utilization and average response time become more important. Today, most routers use a basic drop tail style of queueing in which the queue is unmanaged. When the queue is full, every packet arriving at the router is dropped. TCP, the Internet’s dominant transport protocol, has a congestion control mechanism that responds to dropped packets by limiting the rate at which the affected connection sends packets. If many packets from different TCP connections are dropped by a router at the same time, all of those connections will limit their throughput, creating the potential for significant loss in link utilization. In addition to this link utilization problem, drop tail queueing allows for the potential of a buffer to fill and remain full, adding delay to every packet that arrives at the router.
Active queue management algorithms (AQMs) run on routers, replace the standard drop tail method of queueing, and manage the queue before it becomes full. By selectively dropping or marking packets before the router becomes full, AQMs theoretically limit buffer-related delay and increase link utilization by preventing the dropping of packets from many different TCP connections at the same time. In our research, we have constructed and calibrated a network designed to replay actual Internet traffic in a laboratory setting. By implementing different AQMs on the routers in our network, we can test the effectiveness of these algorithms compared to drop tail queuing and will report on the results of these experiments.
Ryan Doyle grew up in New Bern, NC. He spent much of his childhood sailing, but, as an Eagle Scout, also enjoys hiking and camping. Just prior to high school, Ryan taught himself how to program. He worked for OptoSonics, Inc. on photoacoustic angiography of the breast and was published in Medical Physics in 2010. He then attended the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics before deciding to attend UNC Chapel Hill. Ryan is currently a BS/MS student researching the effects of active queue management algorithms on network performance.

If you want to learn more about the problem of Bufferbloat and its solutions check out:

[Chorus]
I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
Baby, I'ma have the best fuckin' night of my life
And wherever it takes me, I'm down for the ride
Baby, don't you know I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
'Cause I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
Baby, I'ma have the best fuckin' night of my life
And wherever it takes me, I'm down for the ride
Baby, don't you know I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
[Drop]
Don't you know I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
[Verse]
You know I'm down for whatever tonight
I don't need the finer things in life
No matter where I go, it's a good time, yeah
And I, I don't need to sit in VIP
Middle of the floor, that's where I'll be
Don't got a lot, but that's enough for me, yeah
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
Baby, I'ma have the best fuckin' night of my life
And wherever it takes me, I'm down for the ride
Baby, don't you know I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
[Drop]
I'm good
Good
I'm good
Don't you know I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
[Bridge]
So I just let it go, let it go
Oh, na-na-na-na-na
No, I don't care no more, care no more
Oh, na-na-na-na-na
So come on, let me know, let me know
Put your hands up, na-na-na
No, baby, nothing's gonna stop us tonight
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
Baby, I'ma have the best fuckin' night of my life
And wherever it takes me, I'm down for the ride
Baby, don't you know I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright
