Thomas Gordon (March 11, 1918 – August 26, 2002) was an American clinical psychologist and colleague of Carl Rogers. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in teaching communication skills and conflict resolution methods to parents, teachers, leaders, women, youth and salespeople. The model he developed came to known as the Gordon Model or the Gordon Method, a complete and integrated system for building and maintaining effective relationships.
Work
Gordon strongly believed that the use of coercive power damages relationships. As an alternative, he taught people skills for communicating and resolving conflicts that they can use to establish or improve good relationships at home, school and at work. These skills, which include active listening, I-messages and No-Lose Conflict Resolution, are now widely known and used by people around the world. He first applied some of these methods in the 1950s as a consultant to business organizations. Then in 1962, he introduced Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.), a course which is widely recognized as the first skill-based training program for parents. He taught the first class to a group of 14 parents in a Pasadena, CA cafeteria. The courses proved to be so popular with parents that he began training instructors throughout the U.S. to teach it in their communities. Over the next several years, the course spread to all 50 states.
This article lists and details episodes from the first series, which was originally broadcast in 1984. This series was initially narrated by Ringo Starr for the U.K. audiences, who re-dubbed 25 episodes for the U.S. audiences; which was later re-dubbed again by George Carlin for the U.S. audiences.
Most episodes in this series have two titles: the original titles from the U.K. broadcasts are shown on top, while the American-adapted titles are shown underneath.

Production
All of the stories in Series 1 were originally written by the Rev. W. Awdry, including a one-off story commissioned by the staff, Thomas' Christmas Party. The seven engines introduced in this series became the core of the cast in later episodes, with crew member (and from Series 8-12, director) Steve Asquith terming them the "Magnificent Seven". Many settings from the first series would stay with the show for years, even through its 2009 transition to CGI, such as Knapford, Wellsworth, Gordon's Hill, Henry's Tunnel, and Tidmouth Sheds.
Sir Thomas Stewart Gordon (26 April 1882 – 5 July 1949) was an Australian politician.
He was born in Ardrossan in South Australia grazier William Gordon and Alice Wicks. He was a businessman who settled in Sydney in 1903, where he worked for Birt and Company. In 1909 he married Victoria Fisher, with whom he had three daughters. He spent three years in Wellington in New Zealand before becoming a shipping manager. He held a variety of other company positions and directorships, and as also a Mosman alderman from 1925 to 1928. From 1932 to 1934 he was a United Australia Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. He was knighted in 1938. Gordon died at Point Piper in 1949.
