1001 Things You Should Know was a television quiz show broadcast on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom from 12 November 2012 to 31 May 2013 and hosted by Sandi Toksvig.
Format
Three contestants compete in each show. They are offered a choice of 12 categories, and in each category, an expert (either a celebrity from a Channel 4 show or just a field expert) asks them a question, the answer of which it is thought people 'should know'. There is no prize money awarded for answering this question correctly, but the contestant can then answer a (harder) related cash question for money. Wrong answers lock a contestant out of the game, and the question is open to 'steals'.
In round one, correct answers to the cash question are worth £100. In round two, with fewer categories left to choose from, correct answers are worth £300, whilst in round three they are worth £601.
The categories include: Film, Geography, Music, Celebrity, Sport, Art, Food & Drink, History, Television, Human Body, Science, Nature, Maths, Politics, Animals and Mystery. (The Mystery category is the only category that appears on every show.)
Round was born in 1979 in the Low Hill area of Wolverhampton, of Italian stock, and grew up listening to the turntable given to her for her fifth birthday. She attended Saint Mary's Catholic Primary and Junior Schools and Heath Park Senior School.
Career
In the summer of 1996, following a gig in a basement acoustic club in Wolverhampton, Round was given a three-night support at Ronnie Scott's club in Birmingham. This led to support slots with the likes of David Gray, Miles Hunt, Ben Christophers, Mark Eitzel, Cousteau, Elbow, I am Kloot, Turin Brakes, Ed Harcourt and Ryan Adams, who after she supported him in Birmingham, invited her to be his guest at his London shows. At these shows, they again performed their co-written song "Idiots Dance" and "Come Pick Me Up" as encores. The following months saw Round joined by Simon Jason Smith on double-bass, Marcus Galley on drums and guitarist Tom Livemore. Their first gig together was a special one-off supporting Coldplay at the Birmingham Songwriters Festival.
The Army National Guard (ARNG), in conjunction with the Air National Guard, are the United States federal and state military reserve force. They are simultaneously part of two different organizations, the National Guard of the Several States, Territories and the District of Columbia (also referred to as the Militia of the United States), and the National Guard of the United States. The Army National Guard is divided into subordinate units stationed in each of the 50 states, three territories, and the District of Columbia, and operates under their respective governors.
The Army National Guard may be called up for active duty by the state or territorial governors to help respond to domestic emergencies and disasters, such as those caused by hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes, as well as civil disorder.
National Guard is the name used by a wide variety of current and historical uniformed organizations in different countries. The original National Guard was formed during the French Revolution around a cadre of defectors from the French Guards.
National Guard may refer to:
Africa
National Guard (Egypt), a paramilitary force under the command of the Ministry of Defense
Army National Guard, a reserve force of the United States Army which functions as the ground component of the state-level militia while not in federal service
Air National Guard, a reserve force of the United States Air Force which functions as the air component of the state-level militia while not in federal service
The Iraqi National Guard (NG; Arabic:الحرس الوطني, al-Ḥaras al-Waṭanī) was part of the new Military of Iraq but has since been absorbed by the Iraqi Army controlled by the interim government. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, United States Coalition Provisional Authority Chief Paul Bremer disbanded the military apparatus of Iraq as existed under Saddam Hussein. As the security situation in occupied Iraq deteriorated and the Iraqi insurgency became increasingly active, the U.S. set up, recruited and trained the new security force in order to combat the insurgency. Despite attacks by insurgent and terrorist groups, the Iraqi National Guard was able to recruit many Iraqis from the vast ranks of the unemployed. The force has been used to assist Coalition troops in combatting the insurgency. However, there have been several instances where they have refused to take military action against fellow Iraqis, such as in Fallujah, deserted, or allegedly aided the resistance.
Owing to increased demands for higher wages by coffee pickers in rural areas, Salvadoran land owners in the countryside felt the need to create a special public security force to protect their interests. Previous law enforcement and task force efforts failed to yield satisfactory results. The task forces were patrolling soldiers, commanded by an army officer, scattered throughout the country. They were unprepared in the fight against crime in its various guises, and were thus incapable of stopping thefts, killings, rapes and so on. Criminals of that era were using topographical features to hide from the authorities.
This was the primary reason that prompted the President of the Republic Dr. Manuel Enrique Araujo, to create the National Guard. A corps made up of specially trained men with modern equipment and uniformed appropriately for the type of coffee plantations where they were going to act was needed. Furthermore, it was legally constituted to support its actions and proceedings against the offenders to extended the scope of justice to the most remote areas.

I found this excerpt interesting because I was never told about Muslim or bilingual slaves. The complexities of black people are often left out of popular stories.

Find the guard If only she will show her teeth To their growl To their roar To her charge She flies to what’s become of me Breathe deep With my bronze chest Through my iron veil I bid no relief Pray you find her wings I am at her feet She is my guard The candle to my cheek She flies to me With her golden locks And a sharpened sword she’ll never sheathe But we are face-down And we still refuse to show our teeth And she still returns to me Can I bury my blade as deep as she? Dare you not show your teeth? For our arms have turned to wax And they are melting fast, (fast) Will I stand beside my guard? Oh now I have learned To protect my dear left shoulder From beside my guard I feel so much more I can see the tempters marching And I can hear their roar Oh how meek a sound they make Once we learn to listen With unsewn ears, And tangle fears out of the equation Running back from everything Just to warn, their swords are feathers
