Oaths, Dooms, and Curses in Tolkien's Works - Building a World
Oaths, dooms, and curses were very important archetypes in Tolkien’s works, for they set many fates into motion in Middle-earth. What are their powers, and what are the philosophical implications of these things in the legendarium? We discuss all of these points and more in this video. Thank you all for watching, let me know your thoughts about the oaths, dooms, and curses of Tolkien’s works in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

Mujahideen
Mujahed, Mujahedin leads here. For other uses, see Mujahed (disambiguation) and Mujahedin (disambiguation)
Mujahideen (Arabic: مجاهد muǧāhid, nominative plural مجاهدون muǧāhidūn, oblique plural مجاهدين muǧāhidīn "strugglers" or "people doing jihad") is a term that Muslims use to describe those they see as Muslims who struggle in the path of Allah. The word is from the same Arabic triliteral root as jihad ("struggle"). In recent years, Mujahideen has been most closely associated by the west with radical Islam, encompassing several militant groups and struggles.

Khaled El-Rouayheb - The Rise of “Deep Reading” in Ottoman Scholarly Culture
Professor Khaled El-Rouayheb, Leverhulme Visiting Fellow at CRASSH for 2015-2016, delivers the second of his Leverhulme lectures.
This lecture will trace the emergence of a novel ideal of “deep reading” among Ottoman scholars of the seventeenth century. Medieval Arabic-Islamic educational manuals tended to focus on student-teacher relations and the acquisition of knowledge through listening. In the seventeenth century, Ottoman scholars articulate a new ideal of the acquisition of knowledge through “deep reading”. This development would seem to be related both to the increasing importance of the rational and instrumental sciences, and to the Ottoman examination system of the seventeenth century.

Mother Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu[6] (born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, Albanian: [aˈɲɛzə ˈɡɔndʒɛ bɔjaˈdʒiu]; 26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), honoured in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta,[7] was an Albanian-Indian[4] Roman Catholic nun and missionary.[8] She was born in Skopje (now the capital of North Macedonia), then part of the Kosovo Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. After living in Skopje for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life.
In 1950, Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that had over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries in 2012. The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. It also runs soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, children's and family counselling programmes, as well as orphanages and schools. Members take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, and also profess a fourth vow – to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor."[9]
Teresa received a number of honors, including the 1962 Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize and 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She was canonised on 4 September 2016, and the anniversary of her death (5 September) is her feast day. A controversial figure during her life and after her death, Teresa was admired by many for her charitable work. She was praised and criticized on various counts, such as for her views on abortion and contraception, and was criticized for poor conditions in her houses for the dying. Her authorized biography was written by Navin Chawla and published in 1992, and she has been the subject of films and other books. On 6 September 2017, Teresa and St. Francis Xavier were named co-patrons of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta.

The Smith Commission & The ‘Vow’.
The wording in the Vow was ambivalent at best.
However, even with the greatest stretch of the imagination,
it is not credible to claim that what is now being recommended
in the Smith Commission amounts to ‘extensive new powers’.
(70% taxation and 85% welfare spending is retained by Westminster).
This would hold true even if the Vow had been made in isolation,
but it wasn’t. It was made against the backdrop of Gordon Brown’s timetable

Smith Commission: A Scottish Trap for the Labour Party
Alistair McConnachie says Labour must return to the ideal of British solidarity if it is to beat the SNP. More http://www.aForceForGood.org.uk/devo/smith
This is the second video in a series examining the Smith Commission proposals, explaining its dangers and proposing pro-UK solutions.
It points out that the Labour Party in Scotland cannot "out-Scottish" the SNP, and to try to do so is to fall into a Scottish Trap where it will never measure up enough to climb out.

The Smith Commission must deliver Home Rule
This Thursday the Smith Commission will publish its proposals on further powers for Scotland.
Substantial change was promised from Westminster to Scotland.
It's time that this was delivered or another referendum on independence is inevitable.

When the Vow and Brown’s proclamations are taken together,
it is hardly surprising that many people would have been persuaded to vote ‘No’
on the promise that Scotland would receive if not all, near-to-all,
powers short of foreign affairs and defence.
At no stage did Gordon Brown,
the media or the Westminster leaders dissuade the electorate from believing this.
We now know the reality of the powers being recommended in the Smith Commission:
they are neither ‘extensive’ nor anywhere near tantamount to those required
for “Home Rule” or a “federal state”.
It transpires that even retention of the Barnett formula is not what people expected from the Vow.
The implication was that it would continue unchanged, which technically is possibly the case,
but no mention was made of the ‘zero sum’ game now proposed in the Smith Commission
i.e. the more income the Scottish Government raises through the new tax powers,
an equal amount will be deducted from the block grant.
Whatever spin the unionists, the media and the Westminster leaders
put on it, the Vow has not been delivered.
As the Scottish people make up their own minds about whether the Vow was delivered or not,
time will prove, that all the ‘spinners’ have succeeded in doing is postpone the inevitable:
Scottish independence.
