The Underground Railroad: Crash Course Black American History #15
Escape was one of the many ways that enslaved people resisted their captivity in the system of American slavery. The Underground Railroad was not literally a railroad. It was a network of people, routes, and safe houses that helped people escape from slavery in the south to freedom in the north. Today we'll talk about the origins of the Underground Railroad, the systems that helped people escape, and the people who helped along the route.

After the American Civil War (1861-1865) and the passage of the 13th Amendment, slavery was abolished in The United States and The Underground Railroad sought to exists and became history, remaining one of the most important aspects of the 246 years of slavery in The United States of America.

The Underground Railroad -- Colson Whitehead [Book Review]
Colson Whitehead's enormously popular 2016 "speculative fiction" novel about an escaped slave navigating American society wasn't as good as I hoped, but there's still plenty to appreciate in it.

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead || Reading Vlog & Book Review || No Spoilers
The Underground Railroad (2016) is an incredibly powerful piece of historical fiction by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Colson Whitehead which deals with slavery on cotton plantations and the slaves' desire to escape their misery via something known as the 'Underground Railroad' – a historical network of secret routes which was used by African-American "runaways" to escape from slave states to free states where slavery was illegal, assisted by abolitionists and others who were sympathetic to their cause. It's understandably a difficult, and often disturbing, read due to the subject matter, but very eye-opening and educational, so it's definitely worth reading if you're in the right mindset.
