Only in Scotland - Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, Stirling & Forth Valley
One of the most beautiful and iconic places in Scotland, Loch Lomond is a much-loved spot, and its ‘bonnie banks’ inspired a love song that Scottish people sing at several special occasions today. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs is one of two National Parks in Scotland and is a haven for walking, watersports, cycling and weekend getaways and days out. The loch itself is a mesmerising gem on the Scottish map. Admire it along a loch-side stroll or simply enjoy some relaxing moments by the shore.
The nearby town of Falkirk is home to The Falkirk Wheel, the world’s only rotating boatlift linking two canals, the Forth & Clyde and Union Canal. Here, you’ll also find the magnificent horse head sculptures, The Kelpies by Andy Scott, and the Helix Park, an adventure playground with cycle trails lin...

The Great Trossachs Path |Hiking Scotland: Day 1
'A 30-mile long route running between Callander in the east and Inversnaid at Loch Lomond in the west, taking in scenery, loch shores, hill slopes, mature woodlands, wildlife and history.'
Today we set off on a long weekend to hike the Great Trossachs Path.
We get the trail from Glasgow to Tarbet and then catch the ferry over to Inversnaid where the trail begins.
Climbing up initially, we eventually reach the top which offers great views over Loch Lomond and the munros beyond.
Hiking on along the trail we walk through Glen Arklet along Loch Arklet before coming to Loch Katrine.
Walking along the path we come across many information boards with insightful historical information. Very interesting indeed!
Eventually we stumble across an area to camp that is too good to pass up. Wildcamp...

Just outside the city centre, you’ll find beautiful countryside to explore on foot, including the surrounding Ochil Hills which are lovely for a wander

I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.

I hope you enjoy this Scotland Road Trip around Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
It's been a wonderful week walking in Scotland and experiencing some amazing scenery including the West Highland Way and wonderful sights of Ben Lomond.

Wildcamping for the night, we get a good nights rest for our longer walk tomorrow to Callander.
