Fairbanks considered this to be his personal favorite of all of his films, according to his son. The film's use of imaginative gymnastics suited the athletic star, whose "catlike, seemingly effortless" movements were as much dance as gymnastics. Along with his earlier Robin Hood (1922), the film marked Fairbanks's transformation from genial comedy to a career in "swashbuckling" roles. The movie, strong on special effects of the period (flying carpet, magic rope and fearsome monsters) and featuring massive Arabian-style sets, also proved to be a stepping stone for Anna May Wong, who portrayed a treacherous Mongol slave.
Although this production is a remake of the 1924 version, the two films have significant differences; most significantly, the thief and the prince are separate characters in the 1940 version.
The film's backstory is told in flashback, mimicking the style of the Arabian Nights.
When The Thief of Bagdad (Douglas Fairbanks) sneaks into a royal palace, he discovers and instantly falls in love with a beautiful princess (Julanne Johnston). The thief pretends to be a prince, and the princess becomes enamored with him. The thief then reveals his wrongdoing to a Holy Man (Charles Belcher), who sends him to find a magic chest as penance. Overcoming many obstacles to win the chest, the thief then uses its powers to save Baghdad from a foreign invader and rescue his beloved.

The Thief of Bagdad Seas 1924 Raoul Walsh HD 1080p 📽
The Thief of Bagdad full movie online. Classic movie of Silent film.
Douglas Fairbanks is at his most graceful and charismatic in one of the classic silent films of the 1920s. As the thief of Baghdad, his movements are dance-like -- nothing like the athletics he performed in most of his other films. In this Arabian take, the thief ignores the holy teachings and sneaks into the palace of the Caliph (Brandon Hurst). All thoughts of robbery slip away, however, when he sees the beautiful princess (Julanne Johnston). Princes have come from many faraway lands to win the princess' hand (and it's amusing to watch her face growing ever more alarmed at their arrival, because each one is uglier than the last). The thief disguises himself as a prince and the princess falls in love with him. After hav...
