Based on a true story, The Siege of Pinchgut (also known as Four Desperate Men) is a taut 1959 thriller from the famed Ealing Studios, directed by Harry Watt (The Overlanders).
Prisoner Matt Kirk (Aldo Ray) is facing a long and arduous sentence. But when an opportunity to escape incarceration is presented in the form of a stolen ambulance, Matt, his younger brother Johnny (Neil McCallum) and two other convicts do not waste a moment.
Fleeing to the small island of Pinchgut in Sydney Harbour, the escapees make hostages of the island's caretaker, his wife and daughter. Desperate to prove his innocence, Kirk demands assurance from the police that he will be granted a retrial. But as the authorities close in on the siege there is an all too ominous threat that Kirk may fire at and detonate an ammunition ship situated within the harbour - killing innocent bystanders in the process.
